Unbiased dress help!!

Hi ladies!  This is my first time posting and I am DESPERATE!!  I've narrowed my dress choice down to two and there's a 50/50 split between my family and friends.  I feel beautiful in both dresses, but they have very different vibes.  We're having an evening wedding next April at an old sugar mill that's been renovated into a winery... rustic elegance is probably the best way to describe the venue.  Anyway, I'd love to hear some opinions :)

Re: Unbiased dress help!!

  • I love the second one, it's beautiful! I myself think the first one's to plain, but some people like plain. Im sure which ever one you choose will look great.
  • Ha, I am completely opposite from you shamaingtz! I like the first one better, I feel like there is too much going on in the second one!
Is the comfort level the same in both, does price have any effect on your decision?  Good luck!

  • I like them both, and you could do well with either, but think the first one is slightly more suited to the venue. The second one has a strong Hollywood starlet feel which may be a bit too elegant for the rustic vibe.  I think it is the fishtail which seems a bit more formal.  Since they are both different cuts, you may want to go with the one most flattering for your figure.  I don't know if it is that important to match the vibe of the venue.  I'm sure there are different opinions on that.  My venue is an old hotel from the 30s, and my dress happens to have a 30s feel to it, but that is probably more coincidence than anything.  If I had found, for example, a more formal or modern dress that suited me, I would have as likely worn that!  Go with the dress that makes you feel the most like a bride. That seems to be the litmus test - LOL!  Both are gorgeous dresses.

  • I like the first one better.  They are both beautiful though.  I like the first better because I have never liked the trumpet style of dress. Also, there is just a lot going on with that one!  I am not sure which would fit into your theme more.  If I were you, I would go for comfort level.  Good luck.
  • I think for an elegant evening wedding I really like the second one!!!  The first one is a little more plain, but some like plain.  my vote is for #2

  • I think both of them are beautiful.  I lean toward the first one.

  • I like the first one better. I think the second one is a little unflattering on almost everyone, but that's because I don't like trumpet style. I just think it widens all ladies' hips and makes the stomach look big. But if you're stick thin, as in size 0, you may be fine. I just haven't seen that style look amazing on any models or any girls.
  • For all the reasons CMJ&MDL2010 said, I think the first should be your choice. It's more appropriate.

Good luck with whatever you decide. I'm sure you'll be lovely. They are both gorgeous dresses.

  • my personal preference is for the second one, but i think the first one is better suited to your venue.
  • I think one is better suited for your venue and SO romantic.

  • the first one. there's something weird about the front of the second one that is just bothering me. also i don't love the shiny fabric of the second one. the first just just more elegant and refined looking imo.
  • They are both lovely, but I think the first one is more suited to the venue.  If you wanted more glam, you could do some statement type jewelry (i.e. dramatic earrings).

  • The first one is way too plain. I'd go for the second
  • They are both beautiful but I would lean towards the first one as well. It seems less busy and would show you off better.
  • The second one is gorgeous. The first one is very plain and almost cliche IMO. I'd definitely go for #2.
  • I like the first one better but would have to see them on you to really have an honest opinion.

  • Thanks so much ladies!!  I'm decided on dress #1!!

I was leaning (very slightly) more toward the first dress because the cut is more comfortable (Dress #2 is hard to sit in... lol) and because it feels more like a wedding gown vs. glamorous party dress.

There's a satin band that hits at the narrowest part of the waist, so I'm thinking I'll do Ivory for the dress with Champagne for that band... I think it makes for a nice contrast.  Plus, I can always glam it up with jewelry, or (do I dare?) a cathedral veil?!?

  • I love the first dress and think a cathedral veil would be gorgeous with it. The dress isn't as glamed up as the second one so it easily allows you to accesorize with great jewellery and veil

  • Great choice!  The first one is better suited to the venue.  I completely agree that you can then glam it up with jewelry, etc.  Congratulations!
  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE the 2nd, good luck on making the decision though, there both beautiful!
  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE the first dress you posted.  The second looks too flashy, as if the dress is making up for the bride.  The first is an understated and beautiful dress, that looks much more elegant.  It's more flowing design looks much more feminine.. I vote #1 (Pluusss.. I think you posted it as number one because it's meant to be! hehe)
  • Glad you made your decision. The first one was my favorite.
  • A cathedral veil would look great with that dress! :)
