No train or veil

Any ladies opting to have a more ornate gown, sans train or veil? Or a simple gown, with one of those super wide sashes that create the train?

I love the idea of all the gorgeous gowns, etc. But we're planning to do quite a bit on our own, and possibly having it outdoors. I don't know if I want the fear of flipping out if my dress train were ripped, or the material ruined for whatever unforeseen reason.

Any opinions?

I'm not entirely sure what you're asking, but I had no veil and no train at my outdoor wedding. Here is a picture from the back.

Ditto pp...I'm not sure what you're asking. A train or veil is not a requirement.

Veils can be a hazard at an outdoor wedding if the wind is blowing the veil in the bride's face or near an open flame.

Trains which drag on the ground will get dirty/dusty/muddy at an outdoor venue.

I have been to several weddings that were outdoors.  Those brides still had ornate dresses, they just skipped the veil and the train.

Cwag, your dress is SO similar to the one I'm looking at!

I was more asking an opinion of which a lady would prefer. A train, or ornamentation :D

Mag, those are the worries I have lol...

We've decided to keep our original NYE 2013 date, so outdoors will be a "No". But still, we're thinking of doing it in a casino, and I'm not sure if I want to have to change to go enjoy the amenitites. So, I was thinking a more ornate dress, but no train, or a sweep train(which could be bustled with a brooch, or what have you.

I hate veils and don't plan to wear one.

I had no idea what I wanted as a gown but the gown I ended up choosing is completely lace with a corset back and has no embellishments...I do have a train which I believe is cathedral length. I do plan to wear a fascinator in my hair though....Typically I'm a gaudy girl who loves lots and lots of bling, but surprisingly I find my dress to be more 'simple'.

Styles definitely just depend on the individual.
