beach wedding shoes

Hi ladies,

I need a little help...

I am getting married in the summer (2013) on the beach in Key Largo, FL.  I have been looking for shoes, I want to be barefooted or wear flip flops for the ceremony on the water's edge, but want some nice shoes for the pictures and first dance.  I found some very nice ones that go really well with my dress and my beach theme.  The only problem is that they are a little pricey.  Should I spend the money for shoes I'm only going to wear for an hour?  What do you think, please let me know...

Here are the shoes I'm thinking about...

Thanks,

  • As a complete lover of shoes, and a certified shopping enabler to my friends, even I think that's a lot for shoes you aren't going to wear through at least the whole reception. I think that if that style is important to you I've seen some dyables, even at places like Payless, that have a similar style and structure. I'd just get some of those, dye them, and maybe add a sea-themed charm on the toe (you probably wouldn't notice some hot glue DIY in your photos if it was well done). Since you aren't really worrying about them being comfortable for the whole night, this is what I'd recommend.

If you decide to wear them for the whole reception, or if you have money to burn, then I don't see a problem with getting them. Keep in mind, though, that that's probably not the kind of shoe you wear again.

  • I agree with the Payless idea.  They make a line of bridal shoes that are dyeable, and you can get a good broach  or jewel at a craft store.  Then just glue it on or if the pin is long enough pin it.
You can even add the ribbon for a few dollars.

^^This is their line of dyeable shoes.
  • You likely won't want to have your heels on the entire time anyway (I didn't get married on a beach but lasted through the ceremony, photos, and first dance in mine and then swapped them for flip flops), and if your ceremony is on the sand shoes like those might not be practical.  In my photographer's portfolio I saw one bride who got married on the beach and wore flat strappy sandals.  If you're just looking for something with a beachy vibe I think they're cute but agree that you might be able to make them cheaper.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • I'm shoe-crazy and bought the most expensive pair I've ever bought for my wedding... and now I'm thinking they weren't the best idea even though they're perfect and gorgeous.  With my dress no one is really going to see them... I don't regret buying them, but they sat on my credit card for awhile and didn't always seem worth it so,  make the best decision for you!
  • I got married on the beach and had two pairs of shoes. One were flat silver sandals with rhinestones I wore for the ceremony and photos after and then I switched to rhinestone heels for the party. I found both pairs at Marshalls!

I think they are pretty but expensive.  If you can honestly see yourself wearing them again, buy them.  but the payless option seems a lot better.  i have seen dyeable shoes for around $70...the colours are amazing too.
  • I'd get a nice strappy sandal.  I would rethink flip flops.  I think it's awful to have the flip-flop sound as you're walking in a nice wedding dress.  Save the flip flops for the honeymoon.  :)
