Black bridesmaid dresses?

I want my bridemaids to be able to wear their bridemaid dresses again so I decided on black, tea length or knee length, nu georgette dresses. I narrowed it down to 8 dresses and am letting my bridesmaids choose the dress that they like the best so they may be in all different styles, but same color and same fabric. The fabric is light and spring-like, but I'm worried that the color is not so spring-like. Is black ok for a May wedding?

Considering that my girls are wearing black in April, I'd say yes.  You don't have to match your colors to the season.

I'm also doing black knee-length dresses in April.

We're adding green sashes to add some color, and bright pink flowers. So you can use flowers and accessories to brighten things up if you wish!

We did black in February/March with very spring "feeling" flowers.  It looked great!

I'm doing black knee length dresses in March. I'm adding a colored sash to them, which helps, but otherwise, it's perfectly fine for spring. I think the black look is really elegant, and as one woman I spoke to while trying on dresses said, it helps make everything really pop!!
Like it was said above me, colored sashes, flowers, or even shoes could help if you're too worried about it!

I think knee-length is better than tea-length in order to rewear the dress. Black is fine in May.

I am doing black t-lenegth dresses for my April wedding and the bridesmaids are carrying bright flowers.  I think black dresses go with any season, they are classic.

I too and getting married in May and having my girls wear black. I am just having hot pink flowers as many have already said! As long as YOU are happy with the color I would ignore the season and color issue.

Id say that since they're not full length, it's probably ok.  What time is the wedding?  Morning might be iffy, but definitely for an evening wedding black would work.  Also, if it's a formal affair, black would be alright.

Black is always ok in my opinion!!!  I was a bridesmaid in a June wedding last year and we all wore black dresses with bright orange and yellow flowers!  It looked great!

Black is season-less.  It's the fabric that matters.  In my opinion, however, if you really want them to be worn again, go with knee length - no women (except a super tall, skinny one) is flattered by a dress that hits her mid-calf aka tea length.

Yup, I am also having black in April.  Aqua sash and bright pink flowers to brighten things up.  I wend with black because it looks great on everyone, and they may not wear the dress again, but at least they will all look beautiful for one day.

so my wedding is in October, clearly not spring, but we're doing black dresses as well! our colors are black and white so it really only made sense, and black is just so elegant and works great as a wear again dress. you can pair it with any color you want so i think it works anytime of year!

I think black is fine as long as you're inside.  Black no matter what the fabric can be WAY too hot if outdoors.  You don't want your BP passing out.

Black is seasonless and always a fantastic choice for bridesmaids' dresses. If your afraid they'll look too somber, just opt for bright bouquets.

Buffalo usually doesn't have a problem with being too hot so I'm not worried about my BMs being too hot. We are having a traditional ceremony at a church during the day and a formal reception in the evening so I'm thinking that black will be perfect. Thank you for all the suggestions.
