July 2012 Weddings

Cost of honeymoon

Good Morning Ladies,

We went to a travel agent for the first time to get ideas/prices for our honeymoon in july.  I was shocked at the prices, the lowest price she gave us was $1750 a person for a resort near Cancun.  Is the normal?  We havent been out of north america before so not sure what the norm is.

Re: Cost of honeymoon

  • Does this include flights?  How long is the stay?  Is food included?  If it is all inclusive then that price sounds around average.

Also, Mexico is part of North America.

  • I'm not sure. We're not going out of the country. We're going to Maine. $800 for the flights in total, an average of $150/night at different hotels/B&B for 8 nights, and got to pay for car rental. This doesn't include food nor shopping.

Is that just for the resort? What does that include?

I would say that it would be a pretty good deal then because depending on where you are flying from, the flight alone could be $700/per person.

That sounds like a great deal if it includes everything!  You can always try planning it yourself on a website like Expedia or Travelocity just to compare prices (or depending on the place, Costco and AAA book vacations, too, and usually have good prices).

Paulandjen I'm guessing your Canadian since you don't have a location under your username.  And yes that is a average price coming from Canada to cancun for an all inclusive.

  • Sounds like a good deal to me! Our flights to St. Lucia were about $700ish a piece, on top of the resort itself.

  • That is a great rate!

We are paying almost $3,000 each for our Honeymoon to St. Lucia

Yes that sounds normal especially for an all inclusive.  You should also do your own research.  Look on cheap Caribbean for deals in Mexico.  I think you can probably find something a little bit cheaper.  How many days are you going for?

We are going for 7 days, I have been doing my research too just not sure what is good/safe etc.  You hear all the things on the news about Cuba/Mexico lately that makes you nervous.

  • I'm in Ottawa.

It's crazy all the stuff you hear about Mexico and things that happen there.  My brother just came from a vacation there this month and he said that he loved it, but I think he was crazy to go.  I've already decided that I will probably never go there just because of horror stories you hear on the news and even stories that I hear from friends who have been there.

  • that sounds pretty good to me. Our flights alone to Aruba were 1k for the both of us never mind the AI resort we are staying at.
    Daisypath Anniversary tickers
  • That is a good deal. I have enough frequent flyer miles for us to fly free to Costa Rica and our all inclusive resort is $250 a night. So for 7 days that is $1750. You are getting a good deal.

Travel is more expensive during the Summer.
    Wedding date July 7, 2012
  • I don't think that sounds bad for an all inclusive! Definitely check Expedia and other travel sites that offer travel packages.  If you find it cheaper somewhere else, usually the travel agent will match the price for you.

We are flying from NJ to Turks and Caicos.  We paid $2300 for flights and a hotel for 9 nights.  This isn't an AI though and we did choose a less expensive hotel, so we'll be spending money on food and excursions once we are there. We found the deal on Expedia.  This also includes travel insurance, and FI had a $50 coupon.

I was mugged in Mexico and I was one of the people who tried to convince my mom "Oh, it'll be fiiiiiiine!" But honestly, things like that can happen anywhere. The beheadings? Probably not everywhere. As long as you stick to the resort, you'll be ok, I think.

Fiance and I are going to an all inclusive in the Riviera Maya for our honeymoon, and like bridetobe said, bad things can happen anywhere.  We found the resort of our dreams, and didn't care that it was in Mexico, because it was exactly what we wanted.

Bad things and muggings happen everywhere.  My friend was mugged in Chicago a few months ago.  A group I was traveling with in the Bahamas in college was mugged at knifepoint on the beach.  A friend and I were approached in Puerto Rico and I thought we were 99% for sure going to get mugged.

Wherever you go, you just have to be safe and overly cautious.  No need to avoid certain parts of the world because of the possibility of bad things happening.

    Just my two cents :)

Most of you probably haven't heard about the Calgary woman who was there last month with her husband.  He was sleeping in their room and she went down into the lobby.  While she was in the elevator a man, they don't know if he's a native or also a guest kicked the crap out of her and she ended up in a coma.  She finally woke up and was flown back home but they have no idea who this guy is even though they have video of the incident. Last I heard of the story nothing has happened.

I also have a friend who's cousin went to Mexico for her wedding.  The cousin was in her room and went for a nap, when she woke up there was a hotel employee on top of her. She managed to scream and scare him out.  She approached the front desk and spoke to the hotel manager. They did nothing about it claiming it never happened.  The wedding took place and the next day the bride was in her room alone and the same employee attacked her, the same friend who had been attacked previously walked in of this.  They reported this to the hotel manager and he basically tried to turn the situation around and blamed her saying that she probably provoked him.  They couldn't believe it.  Everyone packed their stuff and as they were checking out the cousin spotted the hotel employee and called the cops.  When the cops go there they said that they fabricated the story and none of these events happened.

An Ottawa man was there on business last fall.  His wife hadn't heard from him after his 3 rd night of being there and was starting to get worried.  They finally found out that he had been kidnapped and his body was shoved into a barrel of sulphuric acid.  They think whoever kidnapped him found out about money he was carrying and that was the cause of the kidnapping.

You just don't hear of these types of stories from other popular vacation spots.
