Bridesmaid Dress Help!!

Hello Ladies : I'm hoping that you all can help...

I've been planning and planning the wedding, and pretty much have everything done, but i have a dilemma that I'm hoping that you all can help me with. All of my bridesmaids are all around TX and we are all hours apart... Along with being hours apart, I've pictured in my head what I would want them to wear, and I know that it's supposed to be my day and all, but they are my girls, and I love them to death, and I want them to be comfortable...

On that note... All of my girls are different sizes, with different shapes... Is it tacky to have them all in like maybe just the same fabric (Black Satin), but for them to pick the dress that they feel comfortable in?? I've been to ALOT of weddings, and in everyone, the girls all had the same dresses on, and some girls didn't look too comfortable... I just don't know what will look the best on each girl...

Thanks ladies for reading my long note to get to the point... An suggestions will help!!!

  • That's a great idea, and one that's become very popular these days. Everyone will be comfortable, and may even be able to save some money, too!
  • I think it's a great idea and would make them all comfortable.  I'm with you - my girls are different shapes and sizes and I wanted them to feel comfortable and had to find a style that was flattering to all (I did with an A-line).  It's not tacky ;)  GL!

  • I just told them black, didn't specify a fabric.  Worked out great, and everyone was able to spend whatever they felt comfortable with.  One girl even wore something she already owned!
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • I've seen it look great many times. As PP said, you can just go as basic as telling them a color or if you want them to match a little, maybe a specific designer and color.

  • That's actually a great idea, especially if it's really hard to get everyone together to try on dresses.

I went to David's Bridal with my ladies.  I said I wanted them to choose something in Apple Red and I suggested that they choose something long since it can get quite cool in October (and an outdoor ceremony) but that part was still up to them.  I had 3 BM in 3 different dresses and they all looked beautiful!  While they differed, I think they still coordinated very well.  One of my ladies had a clearance rack sample dress for $29.99!  It was awesome! I think you should definitely go this route with your ladies.  They will love you for it!

I did the same thing for my girls.  We decided on a designer, fabric, and length, and they each picked their own dress -- and I think they are going to look fantastic!

  • I found a dress that was at Macy's bridal, which has locations all over ( i have out of town BM's as well) So everyone was able to get to the macy's nearest them to try on the different styles and they sent me pics/feedback on how they felt and looked. It turns out everyone hated the one i picked as my number 1, but love the #2 choice. It ended up being a Bill Levkoff design in Diva Satin. Very comfortable..and the price was ok for everyone too
