How Similar are These Dresses?

So. My entire wedding budget is $5,000...which I am trying to make $4000 so the extra money can go to a down payment on a house...Which means the first area to cut the budget is the dress. I went with my sister (who is also getting married) to Alfred Angelo to try on wedding dresses together. Of course she already had hers in mind and found it. I tried on a few wedding dresses and this is the one I liked best...

How similar do they both seem?
The price of the wedding gown is $599 and the bridesmaid dress is $149. Should I just get the bridesmaid dress in white and be done with it? Just want some opinions. I am leaning toward the bridesmaid dress and maybe putting a red sash on it.

I would say go with BM one - of the two I think I prefer that one anyway.

The only real differences I see are the train and buttons. As long as you're fine withouth them then get the BM dress and save some cash.

They are pretty similar.  If you're on a budget, then go with the bridesmaid dress -- it's gorgeous, and the price is fantastic!

Try it on, then decide.

I think the sash might compete with the ruching- have them put one on you when you try it on to see.  If you want some color- maybe add a red organza flower pin instead

I think those are pretty good camparisons besides the buttons and tiny train like others have said. If you want to save that money go for the BM dress.

I vote go with the BM dress. If you wanted to add buttons, I'm sure that a seamstress could do that for a lot less than the $450 you'd save by going with the BM dress. A friend of mine had fake buttons added to her wedding dress and I think it cost her $45. They looked like they belonged on the dress all along. Also, no train=no bustle, which would be an additional alteration expense anyways.

I almost like the BM dress a little bit more than the other one. And ditto PP, skip the sash - it's got too much going on around the waist as-is.

Go with the bridesmaid dress. And good for you to have such a budget for your wedding. In the end it will be a beautiful day and as memorable as a high budget wedding and you won't be sick about how much you paid.

I also say go with the BM dress. It looks like it would be beautiful and you can always add some embellishments (like buttons) for pretty inexpensive. What a great find!
