Vail or no vail

I'm trying to decide if I want to wear a vail or not. I've seen myself in the dress with a vail and without. I like both. If I get a vail I know what it will look like.

Should you decide how you want your hair and then pick a vail or do you pick a vail first and then hairstyle?

How did you decide if you wanted to wear a vail or not?

  • I've known for awhile that I don't want one.

As for the hair, like PP said, pick a style that works with your veil.  It'll be SO much simpler that way.

  • I never pictured myself as the bride walking down the aisle with a veil over my face, so I figured why bother even wearing one.  I got a great beaded headband on white ribbon that matches my dress.  I love it and its something I'll wear the entire day as opposed to a lot of veils that are only worn during the ceremony.  Its definitely a personal preference and there are many options out there now that you can choose from if you don't want a veil.

As for your hair I agree with PPs about picking what you are going to wear in your hair first, then your hairstyle.  Unless you are dead set on how you want your hair done, and don't care so much whats in your hair, then do the opposite.  But to most people, like myself, what I'm wearing in my hair was more important than how I'm doing my hair.

  • Veil. For the love of the English language - veil.

I knew what type of veil I wanted, but actually had my hair trial first, then ordered a veil.

  • I still waffle between wanting to wear my veil and not.  I figure it's my one chance to wear one, so I'll probably decide the day of.

  • You should probably also decide if you do wear a veil, if you are going to wear it all night. If you base your hairstyle off your veil, then when you take the veil off, will the hair still look good and work?
I'd wonder where your wedding is, becuase veils say to me 'traditional, church wedding'. I'm not wearing a veil, but I'm probably not having a church wedding.

  • i'm struggling with this too. i always thought i would wear a veil but when the salesladies put them on me i want to take it off immediately. just think they look funny on me. maybe i just haven't found one i like yet.
  • I actually didn't want one, but figured I would get a fingertip and toss it right after.  However once in the shop they put a cathedral veil on and I loved it!  Still plan on taking it off before the reception but it was so amazing I had o get it.  No blusher that would absolutely make me crazy and claustrophobic.

  • No vail, never saw myself wearing one. I felt like it was a traditional, "virginal" bride look, but also have been doing a bit non-traditional with the wedding. I'm doing an up-do with plumerias, 2 on one side, 1 on the other.

i've been debating myself.  i'm pretty sure i am going without a veil tho.  I just don't want the extra fluff.....I really like the beauty of simplicity.
