steaming dilemma!!! HELP!!

Hello,

so I had to buy my dress in Washington State, where I live, and ship it over to New Hampshire, where my wedding is. Now all the bridal boutiques and even the large shope like David's Bridal won't help me steam it out because I didn't buy the dress there, and they won't recommend a place for my to get it steamed. I have no idea where to go and am starting to freak out as I would not like to have a wrinkly wedding dress. do you have any suggestions for me in the northern Massachusetts / southern New Hampshire areas that you could recommend? that would be a huge help!
Thanks!!

  • Ask your local board.  As far as I've heard, any reputable cleaner can perform this service, but they may have some good leads for you.

I had a similar issue with my dress (no alterations just steaming), and I asked the manager at the reception hall I was using for a recommendation.

  • Any dry cleaner should be able to do it, and if you're staying in a hotel, they should have one as well. You can also buy a handheld steamer from Walmart or Target for about $20.

I'm actually very surprised to hear that no bridal shop will steam it for you. I'd expect that they'd be happy to do it for a small fee, especially as bad as business is lately.
  • I had to drag mine out of state as well, and the lady we rented the house from recommended a dry cleaner. My seamstress didnt advise me doing it myself because my dress was Taffeta, and can stain easily from water drops.

So as PP's recommended talk to the locals about a dry cleaner that will help you. Good Luck!

  • You would be surprised how well a handheld steamer works. Pick one up at Target or other store and try it on something you already own. They are VERY easy to use and work.
  • I got my dress pressed/steamed at a local dry cleaners that the bridal shop where I bought my dress recommended. They also have been in town for years and specialize in wedding gowns. They also did my preservation.

I'm surprised at this too.  It's quick and easy way to make some money.
