James Bond Style Tux with Bow Tie for outside ceremony?

I am trying to get the ball rolling for our wedding but I keep hitting roadblocks. For instance, I want my FI and his groomsmen to wear a james bond style tux with a black towie and black vest. He is all for this however I am starting to 2nd guess myself because our wedding will be outside and in May. Also our reception will most likely be buffett style, classy of course with gloved servers. Will that style of tux be too formal for are wedding and reception? If so, instead of bowties they would wear ties, idk if I want them to wear the whole 'matchy match' tie, vest and cumberbun (sp?), it's too prom like, imo.

[QUOTE]There are no different levels of formality within the tuxedo catagory. A tux is a tux. They should be black and never worn in the daytime. The "James Bond" style of tux you describe is simply a classic tuxedo, properly worn. Sean Connery was gorgeous! Here is a good website: http://www.blacktieguide.com/Contemporary/Contemp_Tuxedos.htm

I guess I am confused when you say they shouldn't be worn during the daytime, a tux or the bowtie? :) What do typical grooms and groomsmen wear for a wedding that is during the day?I have seen photos of groomsmen wearing a tux with a bowtie during the day. I am a newbie at all this stuff, sorry.

Tuxedos are for evening weddings. Men wear suits at daytime weddings, morning suits if they want to be formal.

What time is your ceremony? It doesn't literally have to be dark outside, but it should be evening, not afternoon, for a tuxedo.

My FI picked out his suit and tie with Daniel Craig's bong as his inspiration ;)

We haven't exactly set a time, but I am thinking anywhere between 2pm-4pm.
  • I would say this is too early for a tux.

Suits can still look really sharp and dapper.

  • BTW... just realized I meant to say "Bond" not "Bong".

That really changes a sentence's meaning...

  • Thanks for the replies. I think my FI and I will go to Mens Warehouse and have him try on some fitted suits with and without a bowtie.
  • I guess I'm in the minority, I think your guy should wear whatever he prefers. Tuxes don't burst into flames in daylight, so unless Joan Rivers crashes your wedding I think nobody will care. Also I am certain that the wedding in My Fair Lady happened in the morning and the men were definitely wearing tuxes. If you can't take fashion advice from an Audrey Hepburn movie where can you take it from?
