Ideas for an Alice In Wonderland themed wedding?

My fiance and I are planning an Alice In Wonderland themed wedding. Does anyone have any good ideas on attire or dress code for the wedding party and guests? Specifically wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses....links would be appreciated. Much thanks. =]

  • I am fairly confident that someone on either the Detroit board or June 2012 board is also doing a Alice theme..you may want to post something on there. Sorry I can't remember who it is specifically :(

  • An Alice in Wonderland theme sounds really fun!  For your bridal party, IMO it might be a better idea to find a specific color that stands out to you if you watch the movie and use that for the dresses and incorporate it into what the groomsmen are wearing.  You can also do fun things with the boquets and boutineers like have roses that are "painted" red.  As for your guests, what they wear is really up to them.  I think most people would feel uncomfortable having to dress up.  I hope this helps a little. Good luck! :)

I planned a bridal shower for my best friend doing a mad hatter theme.  If you would like I can share some pics of what I used for decorations.  Maybe it can give you some inspiration.

  • Leave the theme on your decorations, food, etc.  If I was told I had to wear a themed costume to a wedding, I would not go.
  • Like others suggested, I'd keep the theme to the decorations, invites, yours and your FI attire, even your wedding party's attire, but I wouldn't ask guests to dress up according to the theme.

  • It depends on what Alice you're basing your theme on. The book is really whimsical and focuses on smart puns and wordplay. If that's the case, I would have the boutineers a single rosebud with leafs of antiqued paper. Little details in the attire will make a big impact, but won't be overwhelming. Incorporating teacups into jewlery could be cute.
Disney's Alice in Wonderland cartoon and live action would give more themeatic color. The iconic Alice baby blue could translate into bridesmaid's dresses or your bridal acessories. The different flowers she speaks to could be included as colors, bouts, or bouquets.

As for your guests, as PP have said, you can't really dictate what they'll be wearing. You can pass by word of mouth that you're having a "tea-party" themed wedding, but you shouldn't say anything specific to them about their attire unless it's a black/white tie event.
  • It has been done on here but I can't find the bio.

Search "Tinkerham" on the Nest as well.  She may still have a bio, it was quite good!

David Tutera did an Alice in Wonderland theme on an episode of My Fair Wedding!! Now I know that wedding was completely over the top, but I've actually stolen little ideas of his from other weddings to use for my own on a MUCH smaller scale and smaller budget. I'm pretty sure if you look on google or even youtube you'd be able to find something from that episode. Good luck!!!

i think you can "suggest" what they can wear for a themed wedding, just be careful how you word it and dont TELL them what to wear. for my theme wedding i have put a page in the invite suggesting a few different looks, sort of laid out like you would see in a magazine telling you to mix and match. they dont have to dress as characters from the movie or book, more the whimsical sort of vintagy feel. they can always decide not to come if they dont like it and then you'll know if they are truly your friend.Laughing hope this helps you, as its a little hard planning a theme wedding. especially if its a secret till the invites go out like mine!!
  • Hi there, I too am doing an Alice in Wonderland inspired theme for my wedding in May. Just started planning, there's tons of cute ideas out there. I'm making some inspiration boards if you want to check them out. I'm aiming for fairly subtle, not over the top.
  • That's what I'm planning too!  I've been getting most of my ideas from etsy.com for decorations and my reception.  Here's another website that's dedicated to Alice Wonderland party themes.  Depending on your budget and how crafty you are, you may be able to make some of these things yourself

  • First of all, I think that is a really cool theme for a wedding! Good thinking! Secondly, It might be cool if the bridesmaids dresses were little blue dresses just like alices dress! And if you don't want to stick with traditional, maybe it would be cool if the bridesmaids wore oversized hats like the mad hatter? Tell me if you like the ideas! And here are some dresses you might like:
    hope I helped!
