alterations with a lace dress

I've pretty well settled on a lace dress.  I'm wondering how much more complicated alterations are with this type of dress.  Is it just more expensive, or are there additional limitations in terms of how/what/how much it can be altered?

I had a lace dress, and the only alterations I had were taking the top in around the neckline (it was a v-neck dress), the hem, and a simple one-point bustle.  I paid about $275.   For the hem, the seamstress had to remove the finished bottom edge, shorten the dress, then sew the bottom edge back on.  It was more labor intensive than a regular hem, but didn't take very long.

What kinds of alterations are you considering?  If it's just generally making the dress fit your body, you should be fine.  If you are talking major design changes, you will need to consult the specific seamstress to make sure she can do it:-)

I think it depends on how complicated the dress is, as well.

I have a lace dress and am really short. I was told I couldn't get it altered normally because it would the shape/design of the dress, that I had to do "hem to hollow" because of the intricate designs of the lace. I think it is best to ask the seamtstress before purchasing. Sometimes (I had this happen) salespeople will tell you "no problem" about altering because they just want to make the sale. Make sure you know for sure how much alterations will cost, as well............You don't want any hidden surprises

What kind of alterations would you like to make? Is there a lot of embellishment on the <a href="http://www.1dress.co.uk/wedding-dresses.html" rel="nofollow">lace dress</a>? In that case, it would probably be difficult to alter it. Even if it could, it would cost a lot! In addition, it is quite difficult to find the same lace pattern if the dress is too tight.
