Non Traditional Wedding Dress

Hello All,

I just got engaged on Jan. 6th!  and I am trying to find a bridal shop in Austin that sells non traditional wedding dresses... looking for a RED one!  Thanks

Try looking for formalware dresses.  IMO, the thing that really makes a dress a wedding dress is the color white.  If you want a red dress, I think you'll have more luck looking for a black-tie type of dress in that color than going to bridal salons.

You probably won't have much luck at bridal salons. But, if you want to try this route, I'd call ahead to make an appointment and while talking to whoever on the phone, specifically ask if they have red dresses. There's no point wasting your time if they don't have what you're looking for.

Like PP's have said, I'd look into formal wear at high end department stores, or even try looking at MOB/G dresses at bridal shops. They will be more adorned than bridesmaid dresses, but also more expensive. There are some that are far from matronly and can be very pretty. Most will come in a range of colors for each dress.

Good thinking B2Z about the MOB/MOG dresses.  Montage by Mon Cheri has some gorgeous evening gowns IMO.  The first few are a bit matronly, but many are simply gorgeous dresses.

If you're from Texas, I'm sure there are plenty of pageant stores around! Consider buying a red pageant gown (one of the contestants on Miss America wore a stunning one!)
