Bridesmaid picking their own dresses-slight vent/nervous

So I made the decision that my girls can pick their own dresses based on the color swatch I gave them.  I have been so laid back about everything so far but want to make sure they order their dresses in time and get alterations.  I just send an email last week checking in with their order status', and don't want to get bridezilla-ish, but should send another one asking that they have them ordered by the end of this month (aug 6 wedding).

Just hope I didn't make the wrong decision of letting them pick their own.

Anyone else do this and have any advice?

  • I've never had to have a garment other than my wedding dress altered in my life.  And if they're truly on their own, presumably they can shop off the rack to match the swatch, or check eBay or used for it, so even if it passes the drop dead date for your preferred designer, they can still find something.

Relax.  This is their one and only responsibility, don't micromanage them.  Find other things to worry about.  As long as they have the dress the day of the wedding, they've fulfilled their duty.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • ditto aerin, give them the info they need and let it be!  I'm sure they can handle themselves.
  • i am doing this with my girls! I told them it had to be this color and long other then that it was up to them with style and fabric!
  • And I should add that of the six girls in my wedding, I only know of two of them selected their dresses more than two months out.  Two didn't find anything they liked until six weeks out, one brought two dresses to the wedding for me to choose from, and for the other, I have no idea when she obtained it.  All had dresses to put on after we finished doing our hair that day, so they could have bought something off the rack an hour before for all the difference it made.
