THE Dress??

Hello ladies!                 So I went dress shopping for the first time last night. I fell in love with a dress and I wanted to get it right then and there but was nervous I didn't try enough on! There is only 1, so the guy offered to save it until Saturday for me. I am going to go tonight and look more to see if its really the right one. I keep going back to forth over the details, did I really want toole? Do I really love the straps? Etc... I am freaking out! This is the most important piece of clothing I will ever buy I want it to be perfect. Was just hoping for some advice on how you knew it was 'the one'??

Re: THE Dress??

  • Relax. Breathe. You're overthinking this.

Don't worry about the details. Go back on Saturday and try it on again. Look in the mirror and just see how you feel. Look at the big picture.

If you like how you look and feel beautiful, get it. Otherwise, keep shopping.

If you DO get it, stop looking at other dresses. Have confidence in your decision.

  • Um, you'll need to try it on and then see.

I had my heart set on a dress/style and they had it at the bridal salon I went to, I was so excited. Turns out it looked TERRIBLE on me, not flattering at all. I ended up with a completely different dress than my initial vision and I can't imagine loving one more.

I didn't ever have a OMG this is the one feeling. I just know what I like and what looks good on me and felt that it was also suitable to our venue and it was within my budget. It was the second one I tried on and the rest just didn't compare so I went with it.

I'm sure there are lots of dresses that would have fit that bill, but I stopped dress shopping after buying mine.

  • When I put my dress on, I just knew it was perfect. It's a David's Bridal dress, but it fits me like it was made for me.

Before shopping for dresses, I thought I wanted something very simple - no sparkles, no lace. I also wanted something light since we'll have a June wedding in SC. My dress has sparkles, lace and I'm probably going to be hot, but I absolutely love how I feel and look in it.

Try on a few more dresses if you have the time...If you still love it and it feels right, I say don't question it :)

  • I agree with ppl - go tonight and even tomorrow to a few other dress shops...try on dresses that are not at all like the one you think might be the one and dresses that are similar. If you still are comparing them to the dress that is on hold then do back try it on...if the other dresses fade in the background and all you can think about is that dress then you have your answer. My dress was the second dress I tried on - and nothing like I had imagined wearing...I didn't get the crying thing but I knew (as did other ladies in the bridal salon I didn't even know!)
The key though is once you commit - commit! Don't keep looking at dresses - you will second guess your decision but when the fittings come along you will be reassured you picked the right one...trust me!!!
  • Yep. Try on as many dresses as you can. Go try on the dress again. You might not like it as much the second time. My feeling is though... if you're not sure - wait. I wouldn't buy the dress yet. I just had "my dress moment" yesterday. After like 8 months of shopping for a dress and trying on so many different ones, I finally found it!  It sounds like you might have had a moment with this dress as well, but don't rush yourself.
  • Relax, I agree with PP.  Go to a few more bridal shops and try on more dresses.  I ended up purchasing the first dress I ever tried on.  I also tried on like 20 dresses after that.  I had found a salon back home that had the same dress so my mom could see it and after trying on about 5 more dresses I put THE dress on.  I bought it that day.  So try some more dresses on, and then go back and try on the dress you are thinking about if you still feel the same about it then go for it! I hope that helped.
  • i would try on a few more dresses just to make sure you absolutly love it,
after getting engaged i went online to search dress styles i likes and printed out a dress i fell inlove with,i brought it to the store in my town but they didnt have it instock anymore,my consultant brought out a dress that kind of looked like the one i printed out but i was so upset that i didnt even want to try it on,6 hours later i still hadnt found a dress i liked, with alot of convincing from my mom i decided to try on the dress my consultant had, the minuet i put it on i knew it was the dress for me, the lace, the beading, everything about it was what i had dreamed my dress would look like since i was a little girl.
  • I would caution against buying from the first store you visit, without going anywhere else.  Dress shopping can be really fun, and there are so many great styles to choose from - in a way, you're cheating yourself out of that experience by buying right away.  But you didn't mention when the wedding is - do you have good reason to be in a rush?

  • Go with your gut. I got my dress the first day of shopping. I'd only tried on about ten dresses. And I bought it that day. I put it back on for my first fitting a month ago, and I loved it even more than I did the day I bought it. If this really is THE dress, you'll know when you put it on again tomorrow.

  • I started balling my eyes out...it was not the length I expected (it is tea length), but it was all lace, very summery, I could add the color I wanted, and it was the right price...

    Good luck!
