Bra underneath a bustier/corset?

Hey Ladies! Like a lot of brides I have a strapless dress. I would love to have something going on up top and this wasn't really happening with just a strapless bra or with just a bustier but then I tried my strapless bra underneath a bustier and voila! The look i was going for. Has anyone tried this for their wedding day? The lady at VS freaked out when I told her I was putting the bra underneath a coset.

P.S. I know a corset and bustier are different but I haven't noticed the push up effect in any of the bustiers that I've tried on. Maybe I'm just looking at the wrong lingerie?

It sounds like you're either getting the wrong size bustier or the wrong shape. Have you tried a specialty lingerie store, not just VS?

Edited to add: I say that because something like 85% of women are wearing the wrong size bra... I know I was until I got properly fitted, and the difference in my shae is pretty niceable.

Also, I do not find VS products to be supportive or well-made AT ALL.

  • If you're going for extra padding then I could see where what you're doing gives you the desired effect. I agree with previous poster about going to a different lingerie shop. I know a lot of women go to VS to get sized and get the completely wrong size from the fitter. Try going to a specialty store to at least get a true and proper fitting and see what happens. GL!
  • I have a corset built into my dress.  I am getting cups sewn in to give me a lift.  Ask the lady that is doing alterations.  I think yo ucan do cups as long as you don't hae a large chest and that they are at least somewhat perky.

  • That never would have occurred to me. I got cups sewn into my dress and it was fabulous. No slipping, no shifting of layers of fabric, and they were exactly the right placement and lift I needed.
  • I do this with my Ren Faire garb.  I'm right between bodice sizes, so I can either get one that fits properly through the rest of the torso, or one that gives me good cleavage.  So I get the one that fits properly, and then do a Nu-Bra for the cleavage.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Hey Wow I didn't even realize that anyone responded until today! Thanks so much for all of the advice.  Unfortunately out here the only store we have is VS but after reading all your comments I think I'll go somewhere in the city to get sized and get a corset/bustier that fits.

Akulagi: I'm hardly ever in the city because I'm so far out on the island that we only have 3 trains in per day and it takes like 3 hours each way (lame) but this corset/bra issue is driving me mad so I think I'll try to get up there soon! Thanks for the name of the store!!

The girls who are sewing it into your dresses- I wish I could do that! I got my dress late and so it's coming in very close to the wedding *stomach butterflies* with very limited time for alterations.
