David's Bridal-Pewter Gray Bridesmaid Dresses

I am 3 months out to my wedding date in October.  All my bridesmaids were going to DB this week to order their dress.  I just picked the color and that they needed to get the short style dress, but left the style up to them.  One bridesmaid went today and they told her that the Gray(Pewter) is a "specialty" color and takes 12 weeks to get in.  I've not heard great things about DB but was trying to go cheaper for my girls and allow them to pick their own style.  Now I seem to be out an option of the gray dress.  I called to ask if they do rush orders, since I'd be willing to pay to get them sooner but they basically told me that's not an option.  Is the time frame accurate for anyone that has dealt with them?  Should I risk ordering them or look elsewhere? I've been searching online for other dresses in that color, b/c I really don't want to switch to black dresses now, but a lot of dresses are more expensive than I want them to have to spend. Any ideas or thoughts?!

  • Have  you looked into Alfred Angelo's "Charcoal" colored dresses?  The bridesmaids dresses seem reasonably priced, I haven't looked into comparing the prices to David's Bridal prices, but the pricing guide has everything under $250 (and I believe they have some under $125).
I also haven't compared the actual fabric swatches, but Alfred Angelo's seem to be a little of a lighter shade of gray than DB's Pewter. I think maybe you should go to a store in your area that carries Alfred Angelo.

  • Pewter is a specialty color.  It takes a full 3 months to get them in.  They are "cut to order" meaning they don't pre-manufacture them like some of the more popular colors.  DB doesn't do rush orders especially on "cto" styles because they are made overseas and can't guarantee timely shipping on items and then it needs to go through customs and all that jazz.

  • Dessy's Carcoal Gray is very close to that, you could find a saln in your area that carries them and see if they can get them in time.

  • I wouldn't take the chance...find another option.
My baby girl is a married woman...and now my baby girl HAS a baby girl. Time unfolds in such an amazing way. I've been blessed!
  • Thanks for the replies!  I ended up going with Alfred Angelo charcoal dresses, which worked out probably much better than dealing with David's anyways!
  • I have a question, if your wedding is already over with, I am in desperate need of a DB Pewter (Satin only) BM dress. Any style will work. Some styles she has given us to choose from are:8355, 81599, 81594, 81591, F132277, 8567, 81047, 81544. This wedding will take place October 23, 2010. If you can help me, this would be great. Amber
