The gms are doing gray suits, but it seems for the price of renting they could pay a little more and own it. Everyone is on a budget though so does anyone have any suggestions for where is the best place to buy a suit?

Macys, Belk, Nordstrom Rack, J Crew Factory...they all have great sales

Check Target.  From time to time, they have inexpensive men's suits.  JCPenney is also a good option.

The department store suggestions (Macy's, Kohl's, etc.) are a good place to start, though I suggest caution at the lower end ones like JC Penny and Target. Those tend to offer much lower quality wool and often polyester construction. 

If you're going to buy, but decent quality...and don't forget to factor in the cost of alterations.
