DIY BM dresses need a final touch

My mom is making the BM dresses, she's good! The dresses are chartreuse, but we want to incorporate navy some how. We thought of a navy sash as pictured below, but that may get annoying. Here are a few other appliques we may put along the waistline. Other suggestions out there?

  • what about tying a sash around the waist like a belt? I do like that navy leaf applique too, probably near the neckline.

  • Oh, here is the dress with the sash around the waste. The wedding is in Vegas so it's a fun, informal affair.

My sister would kill me if she knew I posted these pics of her lol.
  • I like it with the sash. I think the dress is kinda too conservative/traditional for that applique...maybe if I saw it on I'd feel differently.

  • I like the sash, but I think I'd like it better if you made it wider and a bit higher- like a thick empire style? If you check out David's Bridal you can see a dress with that neckline and the really wide sash- I just think that with that neckline it's more flattering to have an empire-style waist instead of a natural waist

The applique is really pretty, but how big is it?

  • I really like the leaf applique. I'm not much for sashes/belts. Plus I think the applique would give you a much more original design and coule be very cool!
  • If it was me, I would do the sash. I agree that the first picture of the shawl might get annoying. But I tend to get annoyed by clothes very easily. I personally like lower sitting sashes versus empire sashes but that's just my opinion. I love sashes! :-)

I also love the applique. I am going to ditto the pp and say that I think it would look good up near the neckline. However, if you didn't want to do it, I think the sash would pop enough on its own.

Then again, the applique is very unique!

Either way, you can't go wrong! :-)

  • That sash has a definite "thickening" effect on her. I'm not sure if it's the color or if it's just bulky in the pic. I think the color has a lot to do with it, actually. I'm not big on  the idea of a sash with those waistlines. Maybe an applique at the neckline is the way to go. It would also help to hide that puckering.
  • Thanks gang...
Oh, and the dress was only pinned together at this point, pardon the puckering ;-)
