Bridal Party Hair

Trying to get the money in line.  When it comes to my bridal party and I required to pay for their hair and makeup to be done?  Also, Will I be required to pay for manicures and pedicures if I ask them to join me for mine?

Re: Bridal Party Hair

  • I have been told that is the bridal parties dutie to pay for their own. But I think it's really up to you and your bridal party.

You need to sit town and tell them what you excpet them to pay for and what you are willing to buy for them.

You might want to ask on the wedding Etiquette board/page

    Best of luck

  • If it is something you require them to do, then you should pay for it.  But if it is an optional thing for them, you don't have to pay for it.

Bridesmaids: Who Pays for Bridesmaids' Hair and Makeup?

    Q.

Who pays for bridesmaids' hair and makeup?

    A.

Though there's no traditional protocol to follow here, if you want your attendants to have their hair and makeup professionally done, it's a nice gesture to offer to pay for these services on the morning of the wedding. Think about it: The girls are already paying for their dresses, and, if they don't live in the city where the wedding is happening, they’re covering for travel and accommodations too. Should they really be expected to pay for professional hair and makeup as well? If you can't afford to do this, or hair and makeup aren't a big deal to you (your friends manage to look pretty gorgeous on their own, don't they?), trust everyone to primp on their own. The results are sure to be fabulous whether you bring in a pro or don’t.

  • If you want them to go to the same place as you and if you want their hair/makeup to look a certain way, then you should pay.

  • If you require them to have it professionally done or request it to be a certain way - then yes, you should pay.  Same with mani/pedi - if you request it be done, then you should probably pay.

If you don't request/require anythng specific then no need to pay.
  • If I can get the funds in place I might offer to pay for my girls, but for now I've told them that they need to let me know by X day if they want their hair done in the hotel room with me, and it will roughly cost X, but that they are free to go to someone else or do it themselves.

If you INVITE them to join you for any beauty treatments, you do not have to pay. ("I'm getting my nails done on Friday morning if you'd like to come along, but you don't have to of course.")

If you TELL them to get certain beauty treatments done, then you do have to pay. ("You all need to get your nails professionally done" or "I want you all to get a professional updo, but you can use whatever salon you want" or "You all need to have your makeup done by the artist that I booked").

Even if you do pay, though, I would still suggest making these things optional, because not everyone may want to use a certain stylist/salon or even get pro beauty services done at all.

  • IMO, it's a nice gesture to pay for the hair/make-up, but unless you're asking them to buy $400 dresses I think it's fine to ask them to pay for it.

  • This is tricky because if you require it then you have to pay.  If you make it optional, then folks (like in my bridal party) will opt out.  I was worried that those that were made up would look substantially different than those not made up and I have no doubt that will come through in the pictures.  So I have opted to pay for them all because I am having hair/MUA in the bridal suite.  While it is pricey, I am thinking of it like a bonding/bridal party pow-wow kind of thing that adds to the day.
  • If I invited mine, I would have paid.  Neither wanted their hair done professionally or make up.  I just took my daughter, and of course paid for mani/pedi/hair (no make up since she was only 11).  I didn't have a need for my girls to all have matching hair.  The only thing that matched was the color and length of their dresses, and a bracelet.
  • Like PPs said you only have to pay if you are requiring them to get it done or requiring a certain style.  If you want to help them out and they are all getting their hair and/or makeup done, you could give them a gift certificate to the salon you are using to cover a portion of it.  I am doing that as part of my BMs gifts.
