Maybe a stupid question...

I'll be starting my dress shopping next week and I'm not quite sure what kind of bra I'm supposed to wear to try dresses on. Do I wear a strapless bra? Or do they make you try dresses on without a bra?

I really have no idea what the protocol is on this. Please give me whatever advice or suggestions you have :)

Re: Maybe a stupid question...

  • They usually give you a bra to try on with it but I'd take a strapless with you just incase they don't
  • Bring a strapless bra if you have a good one, but most places will give your a bra.  Also, know that chances are, the sales girl will be in the dressing you with you so wear underwear that you are comfortable being seen in by a stranger.
  • t probably depends on where you go. One place I went had corsets to wear under the dress, they also have bras too. I went with my mother, so I didn't have to worry about the saleslady seeing anything.
  • after going to three bridal salons all of which provided me with the absolute most ill fitting painful strapless bra ever I advise you to go and get your own strapless, it will make the dresses look soooo much better and give you a better idea of how they will look on the day. three shops, and nope I still haven't found the dress...
  • Thanks for all the advice! I will definitely wear my strapless :)
  • I wasn't offered a bra to wear and would NEVER wear a bra a store let me borrow - icky. Just wear your own, and wear full coverage underwear in case the saleslady helps you into your dresses.

  • Before I went to try on any dresses I purchased a nice supportive longline bra with a low back and a pair of 'shapewear' shorts.  That way I would have a nice 'shape' under any dress I tried on and wouldn't wonder if it would look different with proper undergarments.  I packed a tote bag with my undergarments, a sheer robe (in case the salon didn't have any), hair clips and lotion.  That way I felt I had everything I needed so I could focus on the dresses themselves.  It really did help me to feel more prepared and ready to shop.  (I'm a planner typer person, though)
  • The better stores do offer you a bra, but oh my goodness.  That just creeps me out.  Definitely get your own, you won't regret it!
