distance to dress shop?

What's the longest distance you've traveled to try on wedding dresses? I am looking at a dress online but want to try it on, the closest store that carries it is 5 hours away from my home.

  • Girl, you are BETTER than me.  The excitement of finding a wedding dress was eating away at me.  I went to ONE SHOP that may have been five miles away and ended up getting THE FIRST dress that I tried on, even though I tried on six others just to be sure.I don't believe in luck so I'll say i was very BLESSED to have it that easy.  One girl next to me in the fitting room had already put down payments on TWO other dresses and was in the store looking again at a THIRD.  I had looked online for about a month prior but I knew I'd be getting the dress from that particular shop.  I would say, if you're sure that that dress may be IT, I'd go for it.

  • One specific dress I was looking for was nowhere in my state. I had to travel to the next state, which was only a 45 drive for me & it was NYC so it wasn't that bad.

Another thing to think about is some bridal shops will transfer (from the designer) a dress to their shop for you to try on if you pay for the shipping. I am in that situation now. My bridal shop will get the dress shipped here for not alot of $ at all for me to try on & then in the end if I do end up buying the dress or a dress from them they will take the cost off my final dress.

Just an option you can try, the worst they can say is no!

  • I drove 2 1/2 hours. I live in the Cleveland area, and the dress I wanted was in Columbus. But I used to live closer to Columbus. So I just made a day of it, after I went dress shopping I went to visit my family.
Now it's time for alterations, so I'll make another family trip out of it. For me I wasn't going to be satisfied in my head till I tried on the dress I was in love with, just wanted to see if it would look good on me. And I got lucky, it turned out to be THE dress. Good Luck in you search.

  • 3,500 ish miles, an 8 hour transatlantic flight.   I live in London and am from PA, which is where my wedding will take place.  I went home and found my dress.
