Lace sleeves - Really need some help here...

Hi all. I bought my dress because I love it and it looks great on me, but when I was looking I was adament that it have sleeves, it's the only way I'll feel comfortable. So the ladies at the dress shop told me to just pick a strapless gown I liked and that their seamstress could definitely add lace sleeves to it - NO problem at all. So I did, and the seamstress came and picked it up and said she'd find lace to go with it and add the sleeves I wanted. That was a month ago. A few days ago I got a phone call from her stating that she had no idea what I wanted, couldn't find anything that would work and would I please email her some ideas on how I wanted it to look. So I did. All she wrote back was, okay now we need to find some lace... seeing as she has already been to look and hasn't found anything I thought maybe you all could help me find something that would work.

So here is my dress and below it are the type of sleeves I want added to it. Any ideas/opinions would be very very helpful. Thank you!!!!

  • beaded alencon lace seems to be what your looking for. you can get pretty embroidered alencon online
  • Does your dress actually have any lace on it? It's lovely, but I can't tell if there is beading or lace, or what as far as details go. If there's no lace, have you considered adding a bolero?

If there is lace on the dress, or if you really like lace and want to add the lace component, then I agree with PP, and alencon is always a good choice.

  • Thank you ladies!!

There is no lace on the dress, but I do really like lace and wanted to add it on, I am hoping that it won't take away from the dress.

I've looked at boleros and I will go that route if I have to, but I'd rather have something sewn right on just so I am not tugging on anything.

I love the idea of the beaded alencon because of the beads already on the dress so I have been looking for that, didn't realize how expensive it can run, but I'm willing to do what it takes to get it right.

My seamstress keeps mentioning doing a "lace overlay" but I have been completely against it from the start. I do not want anything covering the actual dress itself!!!

Really appreciate the input, thank you so much!
