Styling a Nude-Colored Gown

It's been a while since I've looked at this thread last! Thanks for all your suggestions for how to style my gown so far. I finally snapped a photo of me in the dress. I still have to have it tailored to fit me (mostly in the upper body area) but I hope this makes things clearer!

I am mostly concerned with what shoes to wear (since they will actually show the whole time!) and what to do with my hair accessories. I can't wear pointy stiletto heels because my ceremony will be outdoors on a lawn, and I wanted to wear my hair long with large curls.
Still welcoming suggestions! You've all been so helpful so far, I hope the picture inspires you :)

Hello all,

I wanted to get some of your opinions on how to style my gown! =D Normally I am very much pro-tradition, but my gown is not white, but a peachy-nude color. I chose it because of sentimental value and beauty (it was my grandmother's, and nicer than anything I could afford for myself). How can I take an unusual dress and still make myself stand out as a bride?

I really wanted classic princess-y look: cathedral veil, tiara, pretty heels... but do I get those things in a shade similar to the dress or in ivory/white?

For reference, my dress is similar in color to this one:
and the style of it looks like:
a little like Kate Middleton's except more A-line in shape and without a train, and with a beaded bodice.
Sorry I haven't taken any good pictures of it yet!

Hopefully that's enough info to inspire some suggestions!

Also, among my bridesmaids, we're having a division of people who'd prefer black-with-white-accent dresses versus black-with-peach-accent dresses. (Our colors being peach, white, & black). I want them to stand out too, hence the black, but also contrast with my dress.

Thanks everyone!

  • pretty color! i think i would do ivory, or that nude color, white might be two white and stand out a little to much. i would say black with peach accent dresses for the bridesmaids, but thats my opinion.
  • Sounds like your gown is gorgeous! I think you could do an ivory veil, or have one dyed to match.

I think champaign or antique gold accessories would look beautiful with the peach gown.

I second the black with pech accents for the bridemaids.

I think I would look for shoes, veil etc. in the same peachy-blush color as the dress (or have them dyed). White/off-white would be easier to find but would be too stark, I think.

  • That's a really pretty color! I think a peach color for your veil, etc would look better than the white. I like the black and peach combo for the bridesmaids' dresses too.
  • Thanks for the advice everyone! I know it's been a while, but I updated the original post with an image of the dress!
  • I think my dress is a similar color.

My dress is a lot of dress, and I didn't like the look of a veil with it, so I am wearing my hair down and I am making a hairpiece with flowers I ordered from the designer. Watters makes most of the veils in a shade called butterscotch that worked well with the color of my dress. You can check their website here:

I have had FABULOUS Watters/Wtoo customer service and I would be willing to bet they will send you a swatch if you can't find one in a store.

As for shoes, I would consider a wedge if I were you, or getting a pair of Solemates (they are little caps that slip onto your shoes that prevent you from sinking in) I think it would be pretty if you did a shoe in black to match the color of the accent on your dress. You could also find a pretty peach or nude shoe, or also do whatever color your bridal party will be wearing.

  • Barbie - Thank you so much! I am obsessed with your gorgeous gown. I had no idea they had veils in darker shades, I'll definitely look into that! Also great ideas for shoes! I'm leaning towards nude for shoes as well. The heel caps are a great idea as long as they are not too noticeable.
