Wearing a shaper to try on dresses

Just need some feedback.  I'm in pretty good shape in general, but my stomach is a problem area that doesn't seem to get better.  Shapers like Spanx or whatever are enough to make everything look all smooth.  I'm thinking that if I try on a dress that shows that my stomach looks a little icky, I won't be able to fully appreciate the gown, so I'm wondering if it's smart to wear a shaper when I go to try dresses on?  Or would it make more sense to just try things on without anything so they have more accurate measurements to make alterations by?

Sorry if this is a stupid no-brainer question. I sincerely don't know. Maybe I'm a little dumb. Undecided
This knottie's been ransacked, suckas!

Re: Wearing a shaper to try on dresses

  • I wore spanx when I went and tried on dresses, partially because I have a small pooch too and for my own modesty. Plus, when they had sample gowns not in my size, it gave them something to clip the dress to.

A few shops said that depending on the style of dress I was buying, they would have me take off my spanx to measure me. But, if you plan on wearing them for the big day it won't matter. Your consultant should be able to let you know if you need them or not depending on the style of dress you pick. Have fun!
  • Yes, wear the spanx if you think you would wear them on the day of, but don't wear them if you won't wear them. You want to know what the dress will look like on your wedding day.
