Bolero/wrap

I'm searching for an ivory chiffon shrug/bolero/jacket of some sort, and keep not finding things I like. Theres one on lightinthebox.com I like

I *believe* I've seen knotties recommend this site - I am a little wary of buying online... what are your experiences of this company?

I should say I'm plus sized, so if you think this style (short bolero) may not suit, please say!

Thanks in advance! :)

For us plus sized girls a short bolero can emphasize arm rolls if the bolero is fitted in the arms.  Also where the bolero hits on the bustline can de-emphasize the lovely bustline that most of us have.  Have you tried on this style anywhere to check these items out?

Boleros can work on our figures if they end in the correct locations. It really is all about the fit.

  • Agree with Magdala -- It depends on the fit. If it's too tight anywhere, it could ruin the image of you being beautiful! And what is the return policy for the site?

  • I bought this one from them: http://www.lightinthebox.com/3-4-Length-Sleeves-Satin-Bridal-Jacket---Wedding-Wrap--WSM0420-_p170330.html

I'm very pleased with it. It matches the dress I bought from them, also very pleased. I was convinced by the photos of the real women--one of whom had this jacket on. She looks a lot more like me than the model does.  See the review photo by Barbara that shows it: http://www.lightinthebox.com/A-line-Scoop-Tea-length-Satin-Wedding-Dress--HSX1237-_p35278.html

The quality of the items was excellent--it was very heavy and nice fabric. Whether it's right for your style is a separate question entirely. But for $25 I took the chance.

  • Thank you for your replies :)

The satin wrap you showed is very pretty! I'm mainly looking for chiffon because its lighter - my dress (its really a bridesmaids dress but it was less formal) is ivory chiffon empire line, plus we'll be in cali in the summer and I find I can get very warm in satin.

I've been looking around online at high street stores round here (a lot of department stores have bridal sections) but theres a lot of cap sleeve - which cut my arms wrong - and very very short boleros. I haven't checked the bridal shop because everything seems to take 3 months to come in and I (fingers crossed!) don't have three months to wait now.

Thank you for your help ladies. :)

Light in the Box is one of the the more reputable "China" shops.  It was was founded in 2006 by Alan Guo, the former Chief Strategy Officer of Google China.  My sister bought her MOH dress there and is very pleased with it.   Pictures to follow.  She knew she was taking a chance and read the return policy, etc.  You will want to at least check that you have contact numbers, address, etc. to contact someone.

Keep in mind that just about all of the bridal brands are manufactured in China anyways.  The difference is the ethics of the company that you're dealing with.  That's why you see all of these designer dresses made for 1/10th the price.  Generally, they cut corners on the quality of the materials.  You can't expect silk, perhaps, and the level of detail, but probably an acceptable quality dress, in most cases.  That's where it's tricky.  How do you know who to trust?

Personally, I would have no problem ordering an accessory or bridesmaid dress from one of these outfits.  I am not so sure that I would do that for my bridal gown.  In fact, after lots of research, I specifically did not.  Yes, we are on a budget and paying for everything ourselves.  But, the dress I eventually chose had such a level of detail to it, I knew I would probably be disappointed in the product had I ordered a knock off.  That is what made the dress so beautiful.  I decided I couldn't risk it.  I know I would have been disappointed in the level of detail for sure.

    Here's her dress:
