Wishing I made a different choice

So I bought my wedding dress back in November, and I orginially fell in love with it and ordered it in white. The store then called me to inform me that the dress had been discontinued so ordering it in white would be impossible. I searched like  crazy online to see if I could order it somewhere else, but got the same answer. I made another trip to the bridal shop and must have tried on 20 more of their dresses, and when I put the dress that I ordered on, it was still the one. They offered to sell me the dress they had in the store for 30% off, but the dress was ivory. At that point I was so in love with the dress that I said okay, and bought it.

Through the whole process I've been so excited about my dress, but now that my wedding is a month away, I've started freaking out, because I wanted a white dress. I didn't realize how important it was to me until just recently, now that it's too late to do anything about it. I keep worrying that the dress is going to look yellow in the pictures, and that it just won't look right because it isn't white white. My FI has been trying to calm my worries the past few days, because I can't get the thought out of my mind, but it just isn't working, and I feel like I'm going crazy worrying about the color.

Has anyone else had this problem? Or can anyone who had an ivory dress calm my fears a bit? I do have pictures of it, if anyone wants to see them...

Re: Wishing I made a different choice

  • I'm sure it will be fine. I'm looking for dresses now and one that I really like is Ivory with a champagne accent at the waist. I didn't even KNOW it was ivory until the girl at the store told me. I honestly don't think many people notice that, and I'm sure it'll look fine in pictures. Don't worry about it!

  • to be honest unless the ivory is extremely dark I can never tell which is white or ivory when they are not right next to each other, when I say a wedding dress in ivory I tend to just think white dress anyway
  • Food for thought:

    - White doesn't necessarily flatter all skin tones.  Ivory is more universally flattering, so you'll probably look better in the ivory.

    - Ivory often photographs as white, or nearly white.

    - So many brides get married in ivory that NO ONE will be wondering why your dress isn't white.  Seriously, NO ONE...

    Case in point:

My dress was actually champagne, which is darker than ivory.  Check out my bio.  I have pics in the snow and the dress looks white!

I hope this makes you feel better.  Good luck ;)

  • My dress is ivory! I really wanted a white dress originally, but then when I tried on white dresses and then an ivory, i realized I look much better in ivory. Ivory photographs very well! If you tried it on AGAIN and it was still the one....it is the one

I want to see pictures! :)
  • Thank you all so much.
Your responses have really helped me, even though in the back of my mind, of course I'm still stressing about it. I'm really glad to hear that so many other people have chosen ivory or champagne, rather than white. It makes me feel a lot better about my choice. I am definitely beyond very pale, and multiple people have told me that ivory was a good choice, just based on my skin tone. I've just had issues getting over that thought that the bride wears a WHITE dress, you know?
I have pictures of my dress online at http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b365/PixieC/Wedding%20Dress/ and the password is "wedding1", since I didn't want my FI randomly stumbling across them if he were looking at things on my photobucket. haha. He's been trying to calm me down about it, but it's hard for him to since he hasn't seen it, and isn't allowed to see it until I'm walking down the aisle in it.

  • I think you made the right choice.  The dress is beautiful and truly suits your skin tone.  Also, it really looked white in many of the pictures ;)
  • I think the ivory looks really beautiful!  It did look great in the pictures, and I may change my mind from having a white vs ivory dress now too!
