David's Bridal CT2406-sweetheart neckline

Has anyone had this dress altered into a sweetheart neckline?  I would love to see any photos!  I think I might be getting it altered, but I want to see if it will look good first.

  • I definitely think it could be done! I think it would add to the dress and make it cute!! I made mine a sweetheart and it definitely worked but I don't have any pics. :)

  • You might want to watch with the lace though, definitely check with your seamtress.

  • I know it will definitely be more complicated with the lace.  I'm nervous to have anyone cut it without seeing it done first!  Was yours cut or just sewn down to make it into a sweetheart?

  • Deff. talk to a good seamstress.  Some bridal stores can't alter things to make them look different, other than hems, and taking it in or out, because of an agrreement with the designer to not alter their gown to make it different.

a private seamstress on the other hand, can do this.
  • I had a straight across neckline on my David's Bridal dress, too, and it had a lot of beading to it, so I thought making it a sweetheart would be a pain, but it was actually fairly easy.

They didn't cut it, but rather just gathered the top middle and pinched it together to make it sort of a modified-sweetheart neckline, and it didn't mess up the beading at all. And they charged about $15 for it at DB.

You can see what it looked like in my sig picture.
  • At first she gathered it and did a little trial "sew" and it just didn't look right! I was so scared to cut my dress (other than the bottom!) but she kept saying (in her little Salvadorian accent!) to trust her, I did, and it turned out great!! The lace will be a challenge, that's why I say to talk to a seamtress for sure.

I called a seamstress who suggested bunching the dress, but as you said, it didn't look right on me!  it looks like the two peaks are too close, making my top area look even smaller than it already is...
