I cant decide how to tan for the wedding... a tanning bed would be the prettiest, but its the most expensive. What are yall planning on doing?

[QUOTE]I don't like when people look very different in their wedding pictures. If you aren't normally tan, don't tan for the wedding. I work outside and had bad tan lines, so I tanned just enough to even them out. I think I paid $60 for 6 weeks of unlimited tanning in an upright bed.

I agree with this.  I look at some pictures of brides that are SUPER tan in their wedding photos, and they have a photo from 2 weeks before and they are super white. I am a huge fan of just being your natural self.  If you are normally pretty pale, maybe just get a VERY light spray tan for a little bit of color, or do the tanning bed a couple times a few weeks before the wedding.

  • I rubbed some tinted lotion on once before the wedding and decided I didn't care and didn't bother with it after that. And I am white white girl.
I agree with Lia, your wedding shouldn't be this huge reveal like some makeover reality show. It's real life, and you're getting married to your real life partner, soooo look like yourself. :)
  • I'm probably going to be in the minority that I tanned in a tanning bed before our wedding. I'm sensitive to the sun and knew that if I went on our honeymoon to Aruba without a little bit of a base tan, that I'd be burned to a crisp. I also just wanted a bit of color for the wedding. I don't think I was unnaturally tan. I know tanning beds are horrible for you. I know I shouldn't use them. I know I shouldn't encourage their use.

I think you should look you on your wedding day. I'm normally slightly tan in the summer. And slightly tan on me, doesn't even look all that tan because i'm so pale to begin with. Which ever route you choose, test run it first way before your wedding - especially a spray tan or DIY bottle. Do not do any new untested beauty treatments the week of your wedding.

  • as a person who has spent thousands of dollars due to pre-cancerous moles, I  will not be tanning... I plan on staying cancer and wrinkle free as long as I can...and damn proud to be white
  • Hurricane Sandy bride here.  We did our honemoon first, so I actually got nice color for the wedding!  If I didn't have it, I would've used the tinted moisturizer a couple times.  I look much healthier with a little color.

<div>Sorry, but I actually disagree with this. I'm naturally pale, so what--I'm not allowed to be tan for my wedding??  You're supposed to look like the best version of yourself on that day, and a little light tanning won't do much to change that.</div><div>
</div><div>I'm a fan of airbrush tanning--its completely flawless looking (not orange!!) and gives me the pop of color I'm looking for! It's done by a person, not a machine, so you're guaranteed to have great results. Definitely test out your options before deciding on what works best for you, so you know how dark you want your color for the day-of. Tanning fades over days too, so this is also something to consider timeline-wise.</div>

I opted for spray tanning because I tend to burn in tanning beds. I did spray tanning to help hide my bad farmer's tan lines and with a strapless dress the tan lines looked bad. I went about 2 months before my wedding & did my first spray tan to test out the results and how dark I wanted to go. I didn't want to end up too dark because I generally don't tan dark anyways. I went 3 days before my wedding & got my spray tan and it looked good. Tan lines hidden and I had slight color but still looked like myself. Only bad thing was by the end of the night some of the color had come off on the inside of my dress from where the top was rubbing when I was dancing (I was a little sweaty too after dancing for hours). I have no regrets about doing it.

You have to decide what option is right for you, no tanning, tanning bed or spray tan.
  • I tanned in a tanning bed for my wedding. I always look better with a bit of color instead of being my pale marshmallowy self. I made sure that when I tanned I didn't go over board. All I wanted was a nice glow not a neon orange glow. Once the wedding was over I stopped tanning. I realize that tanning is not the best thing for you but I am sure many of us do things, eat foods, or have habits that aren't that great or healthy for us. As with many things I think that moderation is best. Also with many things, it is a personal choice and you have to decide which option is best for you and your situation.

  • I tan easily and because the wedding is in August I will probably already have a good base tan, I will however go to a tanning bed to get rid of any awful tan lines so they dont show in my strapess wedding dress.
  • I am nervous about the spray tan- will any of the color run onto the dress? I'm more thinking if it gets hot or I get sweaty.

As someone who spray tans rather frequently, this isn't something that shouldn't happen if you've gone to a professional place. The only time your tan "rubs off" so to speak is in the initial hours where the color is setting in, in which most places recommend wearing loose fitting clothing for the next several hours afterwards and not showering until the next day. Otherwise you really shouldn't see any rub-off. Its also recommended to use lotion after showering to help preserve the tan.

</div><div>I got a spray tan the day before I tried on wedding dresses at the recommendation of my airbrush artist and everything was fine--no residue left behind, nothing. In the rare event of your tan rubbing off (maybe from excessive sweating), it does come out with proper cleaning. Do a trial run and see what you think!</div>
  • I work in a tanning salon and sprayed for my wedding and had no rub off on my dress during the wedding. I did spray about 2 days before my wedding, which we usually recommend to customers so they have time for color to develop and to wash off that layer and leat it wear off  just a little. I do also tan but maybe 1 time a week because I get a sickly yellow color naturally. We have plenty of clients that only spray and I think that's great and if it works for you/them then definitely go for it!
