Orange BM dresses,..What color shoes??

Help! I am having a dillemma.  My girls have selected the most beautiful bridesmaids dress (Mori Lee-style 854) and I am just in love with the color.  The designer calls it "jalapeno" even though it is definitely more of a tangerine color.  Anyhow,...We cannot agree on a shoe color.  I have been trying my hardest to be the cool, non-demandig bride and wanted to let them choose whatever style shoe they wanted in nude.  Well, let's just say they are NOT thrilled at the idea, or any of my alternative suggestions.  They want black, which is quite literally one of the only colors I would be opposed to considering the dress is orange, and I don't want it to look like we are having a Halloween themed wedding.  I am open to yellow, white, silver or gunmetal even, just not black.  Am I being ridiculous? Should I just let them pick a black dress shoe that they will be able to wear again? Honestly, I would want a shoe that I would wear again if I were shelling out the dough, but of course I would rock me some yellow shoes.  What do you think? Would black strappy sandals look too terrible?

I am not a fan of black for shoes in the wedding either.  That was my only requirement for attire. I had them pick any dress that is flattering to them in the color I chose.  they are not wearing the same dress, but same fabric and color. I paid for their dresses, so they didn't have to worry about that.  For shoes, I said, any shoe they want, flat, heel, boot, whatever, as long as it wasn't black.

I honestly don't think giving them a whole list of other colors and exluding one is being unreasonable or ridiculous at all.  I personally am a fan of silver... but, not everyone will wear those again if silver is not their color.  Are you opposed to the BMs wearing different color shoes or do you want everyone in the same color?  

Are you willing to pay for the shoes?    If you can swing it, I'd probably offer to pay for their shoes and they can pick out any shoe that they like under a certain dollar amount in pewter/silver/nude/whatever.  I don't that is being overly bridezillaish.

I agree with you. I do not like the idea of orange and black. It's your wedding and I think by giving them a color palatte (but be more specific and stick to one color) and letting them pick their own shoe you are doing the same thing as lots of other brides. 

Nude or gold would be my choice with Orange dresses and nude shoes in particular are so "in" right now that they could wear them again.

While I love Halloween, I'm not a fan of black shoes AT ALL with colored dresses. I would do nude or possibly something metallic, but nude would be great. Of course, there's the school of thought that if you require something specific that you should foot the bill. (no pun intended!)

I prefer the siliver color shoes, it is matching the dress very well...guess most girls have super shinning silver shoes.

Thank you all for your feedback.  You have all brought up good points.  I unfortunately cannot afford to pay for their shoes so ultimately I will have them decide for themselves. I will of course offer my own suggestion, but will not require them to buy specific shoes.

PS. You can geat great deals on shoes at DSW or sometimes, Zappos or 6pm. I don't know how many people you have in your bridal party.. but, my BM just got her silver glittery shoes at DSW for $16.00

My BM dresses are Burt Orange so I can see where your coming from. I went back and forth in my head about the color and ended up picking black satin. I couldn't ask my girls to buy shoes and never want to or be able to wear them again.

Exactly! That is just what I am doing.  I want them to pick a shoe they like and are comfortable in.  And that they can wear all night in comfort! AND wear again! I really can't imagine that black will look *bad* anyhow, nude is just my personal preference.  Haha! Thank you.

Thank god for this post, my girls' dresses are also orange and we were just having this conversation. Thankfully for me, that hate the idea of black shoes and opted for nude. Personally, I want silver or gray (my wedding colors are orange, white and gray) but they're leaning towards nude.

If you really hate the black, make sure you speak up. At least they will know how you feel and hopefully take it into consideration.
