Where to buy the dress

So I'm having my wedding in my hometown, which is about 3 hours away from where I'm living and going to graduate school.  Do you think it's better to buy the dress in PA  where I'll be having the ceremony and reception/where my family lives or buy it down where I'm living?  I'm just wondering if it would be easier to buy it near where I'm living to do alternations and fittings and things like that.  Suggestions?  Has anyone had a similar experience?  How'd it work out?

It doesn't matter. You can buy your dress anywhere, have it shipped to you if you're not local go back once to try it on and pick it up, and have alterations done anywhere.

I'm getting married in Indy, live in a town about an hour away, and bought my dress in another town about 40 mins away from house, about 2 hours from Indy where I'm getting married. I'm getting the alterations done by a seamstress who lives maybe 30 mins from my house? And I just moved to MI, so I'll go home for fittings and alterations now, which is now a 4.5-6hour drive b/t going home and to the seamstress/dress shop.
