how much do your shoes actually show under your dress?

i know i want to wear flats, and i like the idea of wearing a bright shoe, and i just found these sperry topsiders in bright aqua (my colors are navy and aqua).

the boat shoes would go perfectly with my wedding because it's right near the water and a small harbor. i am also in love with bride and groom shoe shots, so i think they would be adorable.

any thoughts?

It depends on the dress--some dresses don't show your shoes much at all, but since my skirt wasn't very full, my feet stuck out from under it, and colorful shoes looked really out of place.

I wouldn't wear that shoe with a wedding dress (I'm all for having fun with colors, but I think wedding shoes should be as formal as the gown), but it you love it, go for it.

What does your dress look like? I just had my first fitting with my coloured shoes (strappy sandals) and they won't really show at all unless I want them to, which is kind of what I preferred. If they were not sandals I would be able to see a bit on my toes when I walked.

Also, TBH, I don't love the shoes. I think those are somewhat cute for maybe a summer boardwalk kind of day, but I'm not in love with them for a wedding. I kind of agree with the previous poster that the footwear should match the formality of the wedding, regardless of colour. Overall though, I don't know the tone or style of your wedding or dress so it may work. Do you have a pict of your dress?

i haven't found the dress yet, so of course, i couldn't really decide for sure what shoes i'm going to wear until i do that.

but i'm just gathering ideas, and these shoes were one of them. thanks for your opinions

If those shoes are "you" then go for it if you want.  I don't like them, sorry.  I also plan on going with color but also a more formal shoe.

I have to agree with PP... if the shoe is "you" then go for it, but I dont see this as being a wedding shoe, and I think it will look odd peaking out from a wedding gown. Its not the color that I find odd, its the fact that it is a casual boat shoe....

I'm also not really a fan. Maybe have them as a backup pair for reception if your feet start to hurt- but break them in early- topsiders are super blister-causers, for me anyhow!

Another thought:

If you love them but don't know whether they'll work with the dress, you could always pair them with a cute, casual sundress for the rehearsal, and take a pic or two with them on the wedding day. You'd get to have fun with them, but still get to wear something that coordinates nicely with the gown.

i know everyone's saying "wear a formal shoe", but havent you ever seen pics where the groomsmen are in chucks, or the bride wears cowboy boots under her dress?

i dunno, i don't think you have to match the formality of the wedding at all. unless it was like in a cathedral or something very formal. ours is outdoors, and not so formal, so we'll see what i end up with

i think that the shoes depend on the formality of your wedding, to me these boat shoes fit the setting but they have to fit your attire, if your dress is more formal then a jersy maxi I think they would be out of place
perhaps ballet flats instead?

I LOVE THEM!  I am totally a boat shoe girl and would totally do something like that!  If you are worried they might look funny, maybe wear more traditional shoes for the ceremony but wear those for pictures and the reception.

I think they're cute and you could definitely wear them, but it would depend on the dress.  I've seen many pictures of and many brides mention that they're wearing sneakers under their dress, so why not these?

But again, I think it would depend on the dress.  If it were the type of dress where they'd constantly be poking out, that might take too much focus away from your dress.  However, if your dress was more full, and it was more at your doing to show them off, then I think they'd be really cute.
