Mix and Match Bridesmaid- Please Advise

I am having my BM's choose their own dresses, just giving them a color and length.  Do they need to be the same fabric or is it ok if they have different fabrics??
We are doing "Marine" from David's Bridal.

Please advise, I originally thought any fabric, but according to "Say Yes to the Dress: Bridesmaids" they are all supposed to be the same fabric!  Any help would be much appreciated!

  • SYTTD is in the business of selling dresses. I kind of like the look of different fabrics, myself.

  • I told my BMs that I preferred satin or a similar fabric. One of them bought chiffon. The world hasn't ended yet, and I'm happy as long as everyone's comfortable with what they're wearing. The type of fabric I don't think is hugely important.

I think you should go look at the fabrics side by side if you can. I looked at one db color in satin and chiffon and thought it looked fine and another the one I picked looked really different.

    Just depends on your preferences.
  • My recommendation might be to at least narrow down the fabric options, if you don't want to tell them a specific one. If you go in to a store and take a look at the different fabric options you will see that there is a very broad range of choices (for example my dresses are chiffon, which I specifically wanted, but has a very different feeling than shiny satin). Pull out some dresses in the same color, but different fabrics and see how they look next to each other. If you like the way it looks, then that's great! If there's some fabric that sticks out like a sore thumb, then there's your answer. There's no rules to this, it's all about what you like!

  • i really think any fabric is totally fine.  that said, my girls are all wearing the same fabric (but different syles of dress)....but that's just because they all preferred chiffon over everything else.  but i was fine with them being different if that's what they ended up choosing.  that said, i'd just make sure there's a good mix.  as in, 4 girls aren't in chiffon with just one in satin or something like that.  that might look funny.
