Custom Chuck Taylor's for the wedding

My fiance and I want to do custom converse shoes for the wedding. I know it may be "tacky" to some people, but were both a little offbeat and don't like the boring same old same old traditons. I want to do a white converse with "bride" on the back and black shoes with "groom" for him. I went to the Chuck Taylor website and they have an option to customize, but not the way I want to  

I found this picure on pintrest which is prettymuch exactly what I want... Just don't know where to find them!!!

These aren't really considered offbeat anymore. They are way overdone and tons of prom kids do them now.

Those are cute! As for your question- I would let the bridesmaids wear what they are most comfortable in, which may or may not be Chucks. Speaking for myself, I'm wearing sneakers because I am uncomfortable in formal shoes. I'm of the opinion of letting everyone be happy with their shoe choice!

If you and your groom want to wear them, that's fine, NMS at all, but fine for you. I agree with PPs that they (and TOMs) are way to overdone to be considered at all unique or offbeat. My friend wore purple ones to match her prom dress in 2002, so the idea has been around several blocks. 

Don't make the bridal party wear shoes they really don't want to or are uncomfortable in. The party line is that if you want them to wear anything extra that is specific besides the dress (shoes, jewelry, having special hair or make-up) that you can lean a little harder on it if you pay for it (and it should not be considered part of their gift). Even if you were willing to pay, I think shoes are such a personal thing that I wouldn't do that. I hate Converse, they give me blisters and more uncomfortable that any dress shoe. Plus, I don't have great legs, and Converse with a short dress is my dumpy-frumpy idea of hell. You may have a maid who has any of those issues.

I said nothing about being unique... we both love converse and have worn them for years, I really don't care if its been done before, I've seen it and I love it... that's all that matters. So many opinions yet so little help... I was asking where I could find a website that will let me customize converse!

Duds - those pictures are horrific!  I don't care if a bride wears those with a long dress but to make your BM's spend a boatload on a dress, makeup, and hair for a formal look and then trash the whole thing with sneakers is just beyond stupid.

Duds, those pics. Shudder. I didn't even think about short dresses with high-tops. Not for me, thanks. 

OP, your poll, which would seem to be a question you meant to ask, because you made it a poll, is what my second paragraph was responding to. No, I don't think that's cool. Part of it comes from me not liking the look. Another part of it becomes that it's not just the bride saying "wear black/silver/nude shoes" and leaving it up to the BP if they want to wear flats or heels or open/closed toes or what kind of material. Those leave a lot of leeway. It's not even just saying "wear sneakers" which, see above, ugh, but, that still leaves options. It's saying wear this very specific shoe, which some people find very comfortable (I have no idea how, really, but I know people that live in them), but can really hurt others feet. I'd say the same to a bride who was insisting on 5 inch platform heels for her BMs. 

As far as where to find them, if the Chuck Taylor website isn't showing you the option, maybe e-mail their customer service, even include the pic, and see if they get back to you. Or, see if you can follow the pin back and ask the person who did them/photographed them. It looks like they just might have made the tags themselves and sewn them in. It would take a machine that's pretty hardcore, but it could be done. That's all I've got.

Oh, and I agree that they look hideous with formalwear. And you said you didn't want to do the 'same old traditions'... well, this idea has been so trendy the past few years that it does feel 'same old' to me.

I'm with these ladies I would never put my girls in chuck taylors. I had originally bought a pair of nike flat mary janes to go under my dress but they were flawed and I havent been able to find another pair. Note there was an inside joke with this I am a runner and the joke was I could go for a run in my wedding dress. The nikes were actually more formal than the chucks and with the arthritis in my feet we figured it would work well since there are days I literally can not walk in heels let alone run. However I'm now SOL on that option so I'm looking for a kitten pump in purple with a strap. My girls will have black formal shoes of their chosing that are comfortable to them.

People will often say it looks prom or jr high dance and I don't let it bother me- I never was into dances and skipped my prom so maybe that's why the look isn't "overdone" for me. But the important thing I'd take away from what the PP are saying is the idea of comfort- always keep in mind your friends' comfort. Whether or not your own personal shoe choice might offend the sensibilities of other people who like to keep their casual and formal wear seperate is truly secondary to that. </div>

Not cute. You have to look at these pictures for the rest of your life. Keep that in mind. 

And for the record, it doesn't come off as "off beat" it comes off as young. Super young. Like.. you aren't legal to drink at your own wedding young.

On a more helpful note, you mentioned not knowing where to find those.. While they probably change their customizing styles through the seasons, you could probabyl just DIY that. Just make sure you have a sturdy enough needle in a sewing machine.

 I am actually looking for the same thing in customized chucks and have not been able to find them anywhere. it amazes me how people feel they need to put their opinion in when all you were asking was where to get these.. people are so rude these day.

I'm with you, sister. It's a day to celebrate your union. Do what you want. Personally, I'm looking for the white ones with the clear sequins and can't seem to find them. The guys are doing Chucks and heels or flats for the girls. I've contemplated making the white ones, but don't want the stress of it, so I'm going to try Etsy or a crafty friend.
