3 dresses?

Is it insane to have 3 dresses? Im having a ceremony dress, reception dress, and a "get away" dress.

Re: 3 dresses?

  • It's your budget, so if that's what you want to spend it on, go for it.

Personally, I think it's silly. Why have that many dresses that are only going to be worn once for a few hours? To me, that's a waste of money.

  • If you want three dresses then have three dresses.

Like PP said, I think it is silly and a complete waste of money.  I also could not have imagined wanting to change out of my one dress for another when I was absolutely head over heels in love with it.

I could also, maybe understand the "get away" dress, especially if you and your H are driving somewhere that isn't right down the street or are directly going to the airport to catch your plane to your HM.

    I agree with this.

I don't get the ceremony/reception dress change really.  I'm going to want to wear my wedding dress allllllllll day (and probably going to want to put it on at home to reminisce later, haha)

I do get the "getaway" dress if you're actually leaving on your honeymoon.  But since we're not, we're just going to a hotel for the wedding night, then I'm not doing a getaway dress.

  • I do think it's a waste of money, but it's your money and do what you want!
  • Yeah... I think it's a bit ridiculous, but it's your choice. I think a different reception dress is crazy because when else can you dance around in your wedding dress?
I love to dance and party and cut loose, but I want the memories of wearing my favorite dress in the world for the entire evening.

I am not gonna be able to dance in my ceremony dress (because of the train), so thats why we have considered the reception dress.
  • I'm with PPs, if it's in your budget and you want to, go ahead, but I probably wouldn't spend as much on each individual dress.

I'm changing after our "going away" into a much simpler dress (not a cocktail dress and probably not all white) that probably won't even be white. Our reception is in the afternoon and will be over in the early evening. So we're doing the "getaway car" thing with a little exit so we can have pics of it and then going back to my grandmother's house, changing clothes and coming back to the reception to see people. There'll probably be a few pics of me in the dress and that way if our friends want to go out after the reception (we have a lot of people coming in from out of town) then we can do that.

Get a bustle? I agree with PPs. I think its ludacris, but its your wedding, and if you can afford it, go for it. I didn't want to take my dress off nor would I have wanted to leave my guests to go change.

Um, it is called a bustle and there are many different bustles to choose from.

I danced all night in my wedding dress, which had a train to it, that I simply had placed into a two point bustle.

Agree. I love my dress and I spent enough money on one so no way would I buy another one. We are staying at our venue overnight so no really don't feel a need for even a getaway dress.

  • You can bustle your dress so you can dance in it. I had a ballgown with a train (well see my pic below) and once it was bustled, I had absolutely no issue with dancing in it all night long.

Having said that, if you really don't want to dance in the ceremony dress, I would personally just change once. Wear a shorter, formal dress for the reception and also make it your "getaway" dress. I think three dresses is over-the-top and you'll waste a lot of time changing.

I would have a bustle BUT im going down the aisle with ballet shoes, the whole point of the second dress was so i could wear cowboy boots.
  • I personally have 3 dresses. I'm Chinese, so not wearing my traditional Chinese wedding dress is not an option. I've always dreamed of it. Chinese wedding dress is not meant for anything other than doing a tea ceremony. We are having our tea ceremony at the reception. I had second thoughts about my white wedding dress for a few months. So I went out and purchased a short cocktail dress that made me tear up. A feeling I didn't have with any of the wedding dresses I've already purchased. And FI knew that culturally that what we do dress changes. Most of my female guest will have an outfit change. I've always done the same as a guest. Personally I didn't care about the budget since we are paying for everything ourselves. I didn't feel like I picked the right wedding dress also. Wedding in 3 weeks so it's too late for anything now.

Me too! I am so sad that I only get to wear it once.
  • If you think you need three dresses, perhaps you just haven't the right dress *one* dress that is versatile enough for you? Regardless of your budget, I think three sets of dresses/shoes/accessories would be terrible distraction on your wedding day. I would also be concerned about the continuity of your photo album. Good luck!
