Polka Dot Veil?

Hi everyone!

Alright, so... first of all, let me state that I'm aware this is anything but traditional! It's just something I've cooked up in my head, and I need some help making it a reality.

My dress is the Michelle Roth Maya dress (tea-length, strapless, full-skirt, polka dotted wedding gown). It is very vintage and feminine, and a true tea length, meaning it's mid-calf. For my veil, I was originally thinking of a bubble veil, but after my dad expressed the fact that he was disappointed that my dress did not have a train, I started toying with the idea of doing a cathedral length veil.

I don't think this style would work with my dress unless I find a way to make it a little bit more playful. That's where the polka dots come in.

I am not looking for a veil that is made of polka-dotted tulle. I do NOT want the entire veil to be polka-dotted. I am interested instead of having a very simple tulle veil, with LARGE polka dots (not the tiny swiss dots) scattered only along the edge of the veil. I hope that makes sense. I haven't been able to find this ANYWHERE, so I am assuming it will be a custom job.

Does anyone have any tips or pointers for making this a reality? I know it might sound crazy, but I think that the larger polka dots (again, only along the edge/bottom of the veil) would work really well with the feel of my dress, and our wedding.

If you have any experience with custom veils, please let me know! I'd love to hear what other brides have done!

Have a great day! :)

  • Sounds like a custom job.  Cute, but probably custom.  Is there a polka-dot lace type fabric you could find at a fabric store, and attach it to the tulle part of the veil where you want it?  This might be incredibly tacky, but what if you find the fabric you like, cut circles out of it in varying sizes, and have the bigger dots near the bottom outside, and get gradually smaller with the dots until they fade away (as you go up the veil)?  You might could glue the dots on with clear fabric glue, or you could try sewing them on.  I don't know... sounds like a fun adventure!

That's what I was going to suggest.  If I'm reading this correctly, you basically want it to have a wide ribbon edge with the polka dots on it?  You could request that, or even find a veil you like on Etsy and contact the seller about adding the trim.

I'm not sure how a cathedral-length veil would look with a tea-length dress, honestly.  You may want to consider trying on different types on veils in a bridal shop to get a better idea of length.  If you're just trying to go for something a little more traditional, a fingertip or elbow-length might work better, IMHO.

  • I got my veil on Etsy, though not custom made, and I was really happy with the quality of it.  The shop was romancingtheveil, in case you're looking for recommendations.  I know she welcomes requests for custom orders!

  • omgosh i love you dresss!!!

a catherdrel veil would be so much fun and for the reception you could change to a vintage headpiece.

consider something like this (scroll a little to the scalloped edge-- you could def try out a diy, its not that much money to try it out)

also think about this (it may sound wierd but i think it might do something very interesting) get some tulle make a template stencil make sure it is on some newsprint or something and get a can of glossy white spray paint and spray paint your polka dots. It may mimic the shiny polka dots on your dress and since its see through tulle it wont or shouldnt make solid polka dots.

    just an idea good luck!
