Rings!

I've seen a few postings about wedding bands that work with a single solitaire in a four prong Tiffany setting.  I'm leaning towards some of the diamond eternity but don't know if that's too much.  Also, is it true that a white gold ring has to get "dipped" every year or so?  I've only had mine for about 3 months and it's already not as "white" as it was when I got it.  What does everyone do??

For your band, go to a jewelry store and start trying on bands.  Only you will know if it's the right one for you.

As for the "dipping", yes your ring can and probably will turn a yellowish color (mine only does it in the back part so you can't really tell).  I have mine cleaned and dipped every six months but it's also in my warranty so I don't have to pay for it.

  • It shouldn't be taking weeks to get your ring dipped. I walk into the jewelry store, hand them my ring, and I get it back about 2 minutes later.

  • i was also told that with eternity rings there is a greater risk for diamonds falling out b/c you are hitting the ring on things and the diamonds on the bottom will become lose

  • I agree with not getting a 4prong. I had one - and one broke and I lost a sapphire!!
  • kristinanddan-based on your bio it looks like you got your rings at local jeweler and not a national chain. (correct me if I'm wrong) A lot of the national chains don't do much if any in house work on their jewelry and have to ship it out and typically tell you it'll take no longer than 2 weeks to get your rings back.

I have white gold rings, and I love them. I take mine off when I shower or apply lotions, cook, etc. so that helps. To help keep the stones looking sparkly I clean it with a soft toothbrush every once and a while. On redipping-the store I bought my ring says it's all abut preference and that some women will bring them in every 6 mos while other only once every few years. Mine don't really look yellow over time, more of an aged silver color.
  • Oh I think eternity bands look great w/a solitaire.  I have a 6 prong tiffany setting & will be getting a eternity band w/alternating sapphire & diamond diamonds, but mine will have a slight dip because the prongs don't allow a eternity band to lay flat against my e-ring.
  • I love the look of an eternity band with a solitaire.  I have a semi-eternity band (alternating round and baguette diamonds half way around the band), and it is a lot of glitz for a small ring. You may want to consider a semi-eternity band so as to avoid knocking out diamonds, especially if you're rough on your rings (I am very rough on my hands in general, and most of my jewelry reflects it!!!!  This way all I'll do is scratch the bottom, which can be buffed when it's redipped).

  • Thanks everyone!!   Great feedback.  Yes, Reese, I already have my four prong Tiffany setting.  It's round, so maybe down the line, I'll get 6 but I really like the four!  I'll keep my eye on the prongs.

Good points about the semi eternity ring.  I guess the best way is to just try them on.

I don't really notice the discoloring of my white gold band, only if it's against a brand new band, ie when I try on wedding bands.  But oh well!  I'll redip it when it comes closer to the big day.
