Yellows bridesmaid dresses in October?

Hi ladies Smile I've always loved the color yellow and want it for my bridesmaid dresses.  I'm getting married this October in San Diego.  I went to a bridal salon and the sales lady told me yellow was not a "fall color" and that maybe I should consider blues or browns instead.  I was surprised she was practically telling me to change my color but what I want to know is does it really matter ?  My friends are very supportive and tell me to choose whatever I want but would love some non biased opionons from you all.  Don't want to be some bride fashion faux paux! haha  Also, if I were to stick with yellow, would a dark or light yellow be better?  Thanks so much!  Bernadette

Well, yellow might not be a fall color in San Diego, but it's certainly one here on the east coast (j/k, it's a fall color for sure!).  Various shades of yellow tip the fall foliage in abundance.  Don't pay attention to her!  Find some magazines with full color photos of changing leaves and use that as a guide for zeroing in on yellows that might appeal.

    Good luck!
  • Thanks Lisa :-)  Good idea, maybe there are some different shades of yellow that will look fall-ish!

I'd think it would definitely be a fall color in San Diego because it is San Diego! :. You could try pairing it with a darker color like charcoal, and avoid super springlooking flowers. Yellow is my favorite color and I think it sounds great. There's a section on TK that shows wedding photos by color; I bet it could give you lots of ideas. Good luck!

  • Thanks Giaspo for your feedback :-)  Oooh good idea pairing it with a charcoal!  You're right, avoid spring colors like light purple ...
  • Certain shades of yellow are certainly a fall color but if it wasn't who is the sales lady to second guess you?  Its your day.  You choose what you want.
  • If you want yellow, go for yellow! I live up north on the east coast and yellow can definitely be used for a fall color here with the inspiration of the color of the trees.

Just google 'fall trees', yellow is everywhere!

  • hey , it's your wedding you can choose the one you like ,be yourself :)

For the color , I prefer light yellow , it jut my own opinion  :)

Hope you have a nice wedding :)
  • I'd think it would be perfect.  I cansider yellow (my favorite color, by the way...my girls look horrible in yellow, so we went with purple) a fall color (I'm on the east coast).  PLUS, San Diego is sunny (I think, at least), so yellow is both fall AND sunshine!

Okay, maybe that's a stretch.  Either way, if you love it, do it!
  • booo that sales lady.
After I had a sales lady tell me that my fiance had no right wedding gown shopping with me, I couldn't help but take any other one seriously.
Go yellow. Yellow is lovely. I had a wedding in the last week of September and guess what one of our colors were?
    Yellow :o

The ladies weren't in yellow gowns (mainly because I was worried about yellow with their complexions), but it was definitely a bright yellow and main color in our decor.

Stagemanager, I wish I had thought to speak up to the consultant I dealt with like you had. I totally froze up, but lordy was I annoyed. Idk why people feel they have a right to judge and critique weddings that aren't THEIRS.

  • You girls are awesome :-)  Thanks so much for your replies.....yellow it is and boo to that sales lady.  I seriously need to stop listening to them....have a great weekend!
  • Everyone here considers yellow to be a fall color.

If you want yellow dresses, have yellow dresses.  Remember it's your wedding, not a birthday party.  You don't get to redo it in a year.
  • Agreed that yellow, especially more of a deep/golden shade, is perfectly fall-ish.  Yellow fall leaves, anyone?  Hello!  But I agree it would look more fall-ish if you mix it with orange and red flowers instead of pastels like pink.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • Yellow is my favorite color :)
I say go for it! Who cares if it's not a fall color? It's your wedding day and you have a vision in mind of what you want to see. Stay true to you :)
  • Your wedding colors absolutely do NOT have to coordinate with the season.  But yes, yellow is still a fall color anyways so that sales lady can go screw herself.

Yellow is my favorite color, it was one of my colors for my November wedding (we did black, white and yellow), and it looked great, if I do say so myself.  We ended up not having yellow BM dresses, but that was strictly because of budget (black/white were much cheaper), we used yellow flowers though.
