HELP! Ivory Dress with White Linen Suits!!

So my dress is ivory. It looks best on my skin tone as I am pale as can be. The problem is, my fiance and his best man (who happens to be his brother) bought white linen suits. Is this going to cause a problem? They had them custom made so they are non returnable, and his brother bought them and paid a pretty dime for them. They will be wearing navy blue button up shirts but the jacket and pants are white (FI will be wearing a white vest, pants & jacket and GM just the jacket and pants). Is this really as big of a faux pas as every seems to think? I need advice!

Re: HELP! Ivory Dress with White Linen Suits!!

  • Linen suits?  Wow, they will be one big wrinkled mess by the end of the night if not by the start of the ceremony.

How ivory is your dress?  Is it like champagne ivory or is it just a softer white?  Honestly I don't think it is a faux pas at all...who told you this?  Why not hang your dress next to the suit and take a picture.  This will show you how much of a difference there is which may not be very much.

Yeah he plans to take off his jacket after the ceremony so it'll be just the vest and pants... hopefully it won't be too wrinkley or noticeable after that, I am just worried about the ceremony and posed pictures at the chapel... I was surprised myself when they told me what they decided on, but he was so happy to be able to have his "white wedding" as he puts it. He hasn't bothered to ask for anything when it comes to the wedding except to have it for when his brother can be in town (his brother works over seas and could only make it on a specific weekend) and to have a white suit. So it's kinda hard for me to deny him his wish but everywhere I look people say that white and ivory clash and it's a big no-no to where I will look dirty standing next to him. And it's not a dark ivory, more of a light ivory (it looked white until I saw his suit!). I am freaking out. I'll take a picture tonight though and see how it turns out, never thought of that. Thanks!
  • Definitely do not freak out until you take the pictures.

Honestly, as a guest, I would never think that the bride would look dingy even if she is in ivory and the groom is in white.  The reason why I wouldn't think you would look dingy is because you will be in a gorgeous dress not a nightshirt with pit stains and drool marks.

    Hopefully everything works out!
