Switching Bridesmaids Dresses

Last Saturday I bought a wedding dress from a designer having a trunk show. I wasn't quite ready to buy, but I was positive the dress was THE ONE, I just wasn't mentally and financially prepared and went through with it because there was a sale. The same day I also decided on bridesmaids dresses from the same designer so that they would also be eligble for the discount when they went to purchase. My MOH  okayed the dress for all 8 of my bridesmaids, but now I'm having second thoughts on how the dress will look on one of my girls, she isn't big, but she isn't rail thin and I know she's very self-conscious, I just don't want her to be uncomfortable... Here's the link to the dress I chose:

I'm also concerned that this dress is strictly a bridesmaids dress and will never be worn again. I'm thinking about asking if I can pick out new dresses at the same store....has anyone ever done this before? I know the store has a no return policy, but if I chose a dress that was priced equal to or more than the original dresses, what are my odds of them being ok with this? The dresses haven't been ordered yet and only one girl has seen these dresses or paid for them. Any advice??

  • If the dresses haven't been ordered yet, can you let the one girl who paid for it wear that one, and have the rest pick out a dress that they like by that designer in your color? Why is your MOH picking dresses for other girls? I went with my girls and we all looked together.

  • My MOH and I picked them out because I have 8 bridesmaids, and it would be next to impossible for them all to amicably decide on a single dress.
But my question is, will the store allow me to transfer her payment to another dress since the dresses haven't been ordered yet? Or am I stuck with these dresses because one girl has already paid? Has anyone gone through something like this before?

  • I don't think it's ever fair to choose a dress for your BMs without them getting to try it on first. Or at the very least, look at it online and voice their honest opinions.

I also think it's silly to think you HAVE to choose one dress when you have 8 BMs of different sizes and shapes, especially if you know that the dress you choose might not work on one of them. To make it easier on yourself, pick the designer, length, color and fabric, and let them each choose their own. Or at the very least, choose two or three different styles and let them have their pick between those. They will still look coordinated and classy, but they will each be comfortable - and you will have happy, smiling BMs who fit into their dresses in your wedding photos, instead of grumpy-looking BMs in clearly ill-fitting dresses. What's the use of perfectly matched dresses if they look and feel crappy on some of them?

Also, did you ask each BM (in private) for her dress budget before you and the MOH selected this one? If so, do that before you look at any BM dresses. If the BMs name a price lower than the one you have your hopes on, then either find a cheaper dress or kick in the difference yourself.

  • Well the cost of the original dresses is pretty low, which was a definite selling point, but I have been looking a lot at the Twist dress by Dessy Group that is more expensive, but could be customized for each girl to wear the style she wants and can definitely be worn again (which I think would somewhat justify the price increase).
Does anyone have experience with this dress? I just heard about it and would have 100% went this route had I not already chosen the original dresses. This is the dress that I am thinking about switching to, but just was wondering if that would even be possible at the local store (which carries both dresses).

This is the dress I was referring to.
