time to start alterations?

My wedding is in June and I'd assume it's time to start alterations. I'm in Brooklyn, NY so I'm looking for someone local in Brooklyn or even queens or the city who is reasonably priced. I need VERY minor alterations as my dress fits very well. Help me out!

  • I would say a month and a half to two months. You should not start so soon unless it is just for taking the length off the bottom (that is if you already have your shoes). I am having a June wedding as well and will wait until may to have it altered.
  • I'm getting married 6/16 and have my dress at my house now... but my salon won't let me do alterations until the first week of may... so i'd wait 6-8 weeks before your wedding...

mine only needs minor alterations... pin tuck in the breast area and hemming... and they still wouldn't start until then...

I'm getting married in November and I got my dress on Saturday. The consultant told me that in August I'd have to take it in to start getting alterations. So perhaps around 8 weeks, like the previous poster said. :)

  • My wedding is 4/19, going tonight for my first fitting... they wanted me to come in before March when they will be really busy with prom dresses (dress is A-line, I don't plan on any weight changes, but it's loose enough on the bottom that it's pretty forgiving)

You still have time... I wouldn't suggest going in more than 2 months before, but you could call around/make your appointment before then just to be sure you can find someone.
