Madelein's Daughter

Buyer Beware! They sell you a sample dress and claim the dress is brand new!!! I purchased a brand new Pronovias wedding dress fall of 08 for my fall of 09 wedding. In May of 09 I went in for my first dress fitting, When I tried on the dress I was very unhappy, the seams on the sides of the dress were not centered which made the dress look crooked. We brought this to the attention of the seamstress and my sales associate. We asked to see the sample dress to show that the dress was defected. They gave a lot of back lash saying it was in our heads and the dressed looked fine. We spoke to the manager and they said it would all be fixed for our next fitting. My next fitting was in Sep of 09 and we were extremely happy because the dress seemed like a new dress. We went to pick up the dress two days before the wedding and they didn't have the dress ready after calling that morning to confirm. We had to pick up the dress the next day.

The night before the wedding we had to steam the dress in the hotel room because it was wrinkled from being in the bag. While steaming, we noticed loose beading. The day of my wedding I noticed that the dress did not have the white liner underneath. That is the last thing I wanted to think about and went on with my day. Now March of 2010 I went to have my dress cleaned and preserved and they noticed that all the care instruction and size tags were cut out of the dress. When I called Madelein's Daughter to ask why there were no tags in the dress they said that was odd because only the sample dress doesn't have tags. I then confronted them on how I thought they sold me the sample dress and they denied it. I then called Pronovias directly and they told me that they would be calling Madelien’s Daughter directly because the tags should never be cut out of the dress.  Also FYI I ordered 5 bridesmaid dresses from them and it took 7 and half months for them to come in. I had to call the manufacture directly to grantee they would be there for my wedding. Stay away!

I have never had a problem with Madeleine's Daughter and actually would have purchased my dress from them without hesitation had I been in NH. My Mom and Grandmother both purchased their dresses from MD and they came in very early (almost 2 months) and the alterations were perfect. My MOH purchased her wedding dress from MD in December 2008 and had fantastic service.

I am sorry about your dress, but I wouldn't discredit this store entirely based on a hunch that you may have been sold a sample dress.

I purchased my dress from Madeline's Daughter back in June/July and thus far I have had no problems with them. My sales associate was wonderful and even got a discount on a hollow to hem measurement for me. I also bought my shoes, earrings, and headband there. Everything came in earlier than expected. I plan to having my dress altered there and hope I do not encounter any problems.

I think Madeline's Daughter is a wonderful establishment although it does have the tendency to be a little "pricey" but I think that is Portsmouth in general.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with Madeline's Daughter, but I am sure your wedding was still amazing.

no place is perfect and ever store will have something bad happen that will ruin the experience for someone, but like EDK and Arez, I had the BEST experience there, bought my dress, and couldn't have been happier about the whole thing.  so sorry that you experience was awful though, that does suck!

Our family had 3 weddings in 18 mos. The only issues we had from any of the weddings came from MD - horrid experience.  Modern Bride was our go to bridal salon after that.  I think that you don't hear the down side of the experience as often.

I had a great experience with them. I bought my dress, veil and shoes through them and had my dress altered there. My dress came in early, I went in multiple times looking for a veil, they dyed my shoes for free, they fixed my shoes for free and let me buy them before their sale actually started (there were gemstones on the toe and the only pair in my size was missing them), and my alterations were perfect (not only taken in tremedously, shortened and  bustle, but gave me a sweetheart neckline).

Although pricey, they gave me a great experience that I wouldn't give back. I'm so sorry your experience wasn't the same :(
I would definitely recommend them to anyone.

I'm sorry you had a poor experience - but we've had nothing but exceptional service from them.  If you love self-servicea and low prices - Modern Bridal may be for you.  We felt lost there and didn't find the prices low enough to offset the poor - or non-existant service.  Marry and Tux shop was actually the worst we experienced. I would highly recommend MD.

Four brides I know went there and had horrible experiences, especially with the fittings.  I went there because I thought it would be fun and exciting. I did not get along with the sales woman. She was not a good fit with me. and when I said I wanted a classic elegant dress, she brought my a one shouldered frilly dress with a Boa thing on it- definitely not a classic wedding dress. She completely misread me, like i said, and when my mom and i were looking at each other being like what is this dress she brought me, she thought i was nervous about getting married and it all becoming "real." um no. you're picking bad dresses and making me feel uncomfortable.

I think there are good and bad to every place. after all the bad stories i have heard about MD though, i don't recommend it.
