Our wedding is next Labor Day weekend and we booked our site in May, (roughly about 15 months in advance of the wedding date).  We reserved a block of hotel rooms in Keene 12 months in advance, (holiday weekend AND because it is a college town and a lot of parents might be booking rooms near the campus around that time too).  I think part of this depends on where you're going to book....more popular sites book up quickly, and your budget of course.

If you are willing to take a little risk or can be flexible with your date, you might get a better price if you wait.  I know that some of the venues, (Searles Castle and Zorvinno Vineyards for example), will deeply discount their non-booked dates about 3-6 months ahead of time.  If you are firm on your date or location, and it's a holiday weekend then I recommend you book it as soon as you can--or at least 9-12 months in advance.

We're getting married July 2, 2011 and we booked our reception site last August which was probably early but we knew what we wanted.

If you know what venue you're interested in, it also can't hurt to specifically ask them how far in advance they typically book up.  My FI and I chose Searles Castle and they were very up front with us when we asked.  You might also want to check with hotels in the area if you're going to have guests who need to rent rooms!

We booked a year and 2 months in advanced for a non-holiday weekend.  I wanted to know we HAD a venue and then it's all down hill from there.  Good point with a college town too my reception was in Keene so we had to change our date to have hotel rooms because our original choice was parents weekend at Keene State and they couldn't give us the group discount on rooms.  Holiday weekends can be tough too so spread the word if you are definate on a guest.  GL!  What venues are you looking at?

Thanks everyone with for your advice!

We are thinking about the Bedford Village Inn, but I also go to college in Boston so we are going to look at a few locations around here too

The Bedford Village Inn is GORGEOUS, and really easy to get to.  Nice choice!  I certainly hope you find something you love, regardless! :)

We booked out a year in advance for out Memorial Day weekend Wedding.  IF you have your heart set on a location and they are accepting bookings ahead of time, I would go and book, but if you have the time to look around, I would do so :)

    Good luck
