Steaming a complicated taffeta dress...

I have a rather complicated taffeta dress: http://www.trudysbrides.com/images/Private-Label-by-G-1383.jpg

It's very wrinkled and I have no idea how to go about finding a professional that I would trust with steaming it, not to mention no idea how I would get it home from said professional's without wrinkling it again.

My mother has a professional clothing steamer. Can I wrap a towel around that to prevent drips and steam the dress myself? That seems a bit risky, but so does leaving my expensive dress with someone I don't know or trust. I may contact the seamstress who did the alterations and ask if she can recommend someone, but in the meantime, should I not even be considering doing it myself?

Thanks!

[QUOTE]Personally I wouldn't consider doing this myself. I would definitely take it to a reputable bridal salon or bridal seamstress (who is experienced with wedding gowns, not just dresses) in your area and let them do it. The cost is worth it, instead of risking wrecking your dress doing it yourself.

    Agreed.

    P.S: The dress is amazing!
  • A professional will be used to dealing with taffeta - water marks can stain badly, so definitely take it to a reptable bridal shop or bridal steamer, they will know how to handle it, and should also have insurance should anyhting happen (unlikely!)
