Dress anxiety!!!

Ok, so I haven't gotten a dress yet.  I have been to two places.  I found a dress that I really, really like at the last place.  But I am an extremely indecisive person, so  I am going to another place tomorrow to be sure that it's the dress.  I've been having anxiety over the dress as it is, because my wedding is in September and people have been saying how the dresses take so long to make. (I want a dress with a lot of beading)  So last night I was talking to my fiance and was saying how I have been having anxiety over a dress and how I want to make sure I get the right one.  I asked him what kinda dress he pictured me in and he said something that was fitted - he doesn't like "poofy."  Well... the dress I am leaning towards... is "POOFY."  The top is fitted through the waist, but the skirt is ballgown style.  I had already said when I tried it on, that I would have them take some of the "poofiness" out and remove some layers, because I don't like that much "poof"... but now I am having severe anxiety over it. I don't know how much they could take out with the dress still looking nice.  The more I look at the picture of me in the dress, the more I love it.  What if this is the dress I want, and he hates it?

Here is the dress....

Re: Dress anxiety!!!

  • I would say try on something less poufy just to see how you look. If you still love and prefer yourself in the poufy-er dress, that is the one you should get. Your fiance may not like poufy dresses, but the dress is going to look very different to him on his wedding day with you in it!
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • The view I take is this:

Unless you're a sociopath bride, this wedding is something you're planning together with him, made with compromises on colors, centerpieces, flowers, guest lists, budgets, etc.

    The dress alone is yours.

You're going to be a radiant bride no matter what, and he's going to love seeing you in this gown, I assure you.

Most men's fear of the poufy dress is some overblown notion of princess tantrum behavior, and it's unfamiliar. It's very unlikely you wear something so poufy normally, and it scares him. Formly or fitted, he can imagine you in because you've worn something like that before. Stay with the dress you love.

  • Thanks ladies!!  I was actually set against a ball gown.  I kind of reluctantly tried this dress on, and loved it.  I fell in love with the top beading first.  I was hesitant about the skirt, but the dress shop stated that they could take some of the crinoline out.  I just don't know how that would look...

    That dress is beautiful.

If you really love this one over all other styles, I think you should go with it. Men are typically clueless when it comes to bridal gowns. He'll love whatever you pick. .

If the salon were to take some Tulle out of the slip, or make it less full, it'd still look really pretty. It'd go from a full ball gown to an A-Line
  • That dress is gorgeous.  It looks a little poofy, but not what I was expecting when you said "POOFY" in all caps.  The most important things are that you feel beautiful in and love your gown.  Odds are, your fiancee is clueless about what style dress is going to look best on you, and you're going to knock his socks off when he sees you in whatever dress you pick.  Good luck making a decision!
  • Thanks! You guys have def made me feel a heck of a lot better. Smile

  • I was expecting wayyy poofier.

Honestly, your FI will feel totally different when he sees you all dolled up. The way a dress looks on a model and the way it looks on the woman he's marrying are two very different things.

  • Thanks!  I feel a lot more confident that if I decide to go with this dress, that he will be happy with it.  And you guys made a good point.... for all I know, poofy to him may be like a huge Cinderella gown.  II guess it seems poofier to me because I am not used to wearing anything remotely close to this... lol.  I wish I could just show him the dress and ask him what he thinks. lol.  But since I can't, it's great to be able to come here and get opinions.  Thanks again ladies!!!

  • I asked my fiancé and he said the same thing. And you know what? I got the same type of dress as you! Mine is an Oleg Cassini, very tight and heavy beaded on top and pin up pooch satin on bottom. But I know when he sees me, he will think I am the most beautiful thing he has ever seen! Your fiancé will do the same. That dress is amazing ;)

  • Hi ladies,

Just to follow up, I ended up finding a dress - a non-poofy one - this weekend!
