Casablanca 2051- Bulging at Waist

Hi Everyone,

I went for my 2nd fitting yesterday and my Casablanca 2051 is bulging at the waist (it looks like I have a roll around the waist).  When I ordered the dress, my seamstress swore she could fix it (she now says she cannot).  I believe it has something to do with the fact that the underlay of the dress was constructed in two pieces - with the crinolin, etc.  all attached underneath at that very point.  I don't believe it is too tight, as I originally tried on a size 16 (I'm a 12) and it did the same thing.

My wedding is in 4 weeks, and I am now very stressed about it, particularly since I just uploaded my pics on the computer, and it's very apparent in the pics.

I am calling the seamstess on Monday, but figured I would see if anyone else has seen a similar problem or could suggest a sash that might go with the dress (that was their only suggestion).

Thanks!

Thanks.  Added another photo with a closer view...
  • Oh I see what you're saying. It kinda rolls up. How strange! Is there any way an alterations person could take the crinolin, dettach it, and reattach it at a different point lower on the skirt so it wont all collect there in the middle?

I would highly recommend going to another seamstress for a second opinion. Just because your seamstress doesn't know how to do it doesn't mean another seamstress can't. Even if you can't take the dress to another seamstress, take these pictures in with you.

What kind of wedding are you having? Flowery? Blingy? Classic? If you give me some more information I might be able to do a search for a sash for you. Etsy is awesome for pretty, unique sashes.

    Best of luck!

I wondered about detaching the crinolin and reattaching elsewhere, as well.  My mom and I are going back this week, to take a really good look at the underlining of the dress.
My wedding is a traditional church / country club wedding..classic would be the best way I could describe it!  I'm not a blingy person, more flowery and romantic would be my style.  I would greatly appreciate any ideas!!!
  • If the seamstress can't fit it, I would suggest a plain sash to match the color of your dress.  The seamstress may be able to custom make one for you.
    Anniversary
  • Those were my exact two ideas: find a new seamstress, or find a sash :P

    What colours are your wedding?

Here are a few examples of ivory sashes:

You could also add a bit of colour to match your wedding colours, such as these:

Your dress is beautiful, good luck!

  • Thank you so much - I love the sashes, especially the first one!  Not sure if it would match my dress, but perhaps the seamstress could put together something similar.
I'll find out this week what can be done!
