Name change :(

So I went to the RMV today to change my name... well after waiting about 40 min I was told that I couldnt change anything until I got my record cleared becayse something from NH was showing on my reocrd. 

So I called the DMV ... they inform me that I got a ticket back on 8-19-08 for allowing an unauthorized person to drive my vehicle and that I would have been in the car too... This never happened. I don't even know who it could have been. 

So then I had to call district court to get it all squared away and their computers are down.... And my licenses and registration are suspended and have been since April and I never knew it. 

This sucks so bad. I refuse to have to pay for this. And now I wont be able to change my name or drive to work... UGH!!! 

Sorry for venting.

I just so your FB post.  That's kind of crazy - not so much that there's something on your record (those kind of mixups happen all the time) but that no one sent you a notice or tracked you down or anything to tell you!!
I hope you can work it out soon without too much stress.

DO NOT pay anything.  If they didn't notify you that your license would be suspended, they have no right to hold you accountable for it.   They should have sent a letter, and if you didn't recieve it, you have no responsibility for the fine associated with a charge you didn't get the chance to dispute. 
This will all work itself out, but what a PITA!  Sorry to hear that!

That is awful!  I am so sorry you have to deal with this!  Definitely a WTF Friday moment.  I wouldn't pay anything until you can get the full story with the district court. Best of luck!  

You are still Mrs. DH whether your license says it or not!

That is crazy!  In the meantime if NH is anything like MA you can apply for a hardship license to be able to drive between certain times for work.  That sucks!  I wouldn't be able to stay calm with that one that's for sure.


It'll work out though.

I just called the District Court again... they have all the information down as me except  they had that I owned a mazda and that my license was NH ... so I know its not me but now I apparently have a warrant out for my arrest and have to go to the police station so I can fight this in court. This is  crazy!

This happened to my friend and she was arrested!!  OUT OF NOWHERE!  She was driving around and all of a sudden was pulled over and cuffed.  Had no idea that any of this was going on, turned out to be a mistake and she was released etc, but still, so awful.  I am sorry and good luck!!!

I hate to say it but you are really lucky.  Something like this happened to me where a piece of mail wasn't delivered and they suspended my license for a year and half!  Without me knowing it!  I eventually got arrested for something I didn't even do.  It was all dropped, but SUCH a pain to have to fight it!

DH got in touch with a friend of his who is a detective in Dover, just to find out what we should do. He got us in touch with someone in Nashua who we explained this to and told me a few things that helped me to figure out what happened. A "friend" of mine since childhood stole my identity to get out of her issues. I called her out on some stuff becuase she was in trouble all the time and she didnt like that... so in turn I guess she decided to be me... The detective is taking care of clearing my record so i can drive again and change my name and is also filing reports for this. DH and I both need to go to the station some time this week and file reports... I plan to do whatever I can to make her pay for what she has done. She is always in trouble so the police know her well... But this is just insane. I knew she was off her rocker.

Thank god its being cleared up though.

Oh jeez. So your identity was stolen from your "friend"?! The same thing happened to FI when we were living in Lowell. His "friend" racked up his credit so bad that he can't get approved for anything.

Wowza!!  That's terrible.  I've been leaning toward a "life lock" type thing after my bank card was copied and recently my e-mail - it seems I hear of this happening more and more to people.
