Bridesmaid Dress Color. BIG OOPS

My girls are all wearing different dresses in our wedding, but all the same color and all poly chiffon. Yesterday, I was at a fitting for one of my girls who is also getting married, and we found a bridesmaid dress on the sale rack which was the perfect size and what I thought was the perfect color. I didn't have my swatches with me at the time, and I didn't think to ask the salesgirl for a new one. Now that I think about it, I believe it is going to be too light compared to the others. Its supposed to be espresso and hers is more taupe I think. My question is: since we cannot return the dress, what should I do? Can it be professionally dyed to match the others? Two other girls already have dresses in the correct color, so I can't just change it altogether. I offered to pay for a new dress if this one just won't work, since its my screw-up. Thoughts?

  • I would ask alterations about dyeing it...it seems risky with chiffon. Is the color different enough that you could try to pass it off as "on purpose" and put her in the middle and incorporate that color somehow in the other girls accessories to make it all seem more cohesive?
  • I suppose I could alter the girls, one light, one dark etc etc. That might work :)

  • Dyeing is risky.  And unlikely to give you exact results, especially since you're starting with something that is already coloured.

I would either alternate them dark, light, dark, or order the third girl a new dress.  Is she your MOH?  If so then it's not out-of-place for her to have a "mismatched" dress.
  • If the two colors look nice together, I think you could put half your bridesmaids in one color, and half in the other color.  Good luck! :)
  • I would probably just leave it. How many BM's are you having? If those dresses are still available, could you do half in one color and half in the other? That is what we did, even though I had it planned that way.

    ditto.
  • I have six. I broke out my son's crayons last night and sketched how it would look alternating them, and it actually looks really good, so that is what I am gonna do. Thanks ladies!!
