Ok, so I think I'm crazy...

So originally, I wanted a sheath or mermaid lace gown. I ended up getting an A-line with lacy layers in the skirt and a pretty substantial train. Not what I thought I wanted, but it's beautiful and I loved it. However, a couple weeks ago, I started stressing. I tried the dress on again and it's has a corset top, with ribs, and it's kind of snug. It looks great standing, but I have to sit kind of stiffly and I'm really worried about how big the bustle will be. How am I going to sit in this thing, let alone dance? It's not bigger than an average dress, is this just how it is with wedding gowns? Anyway, I freaked out and bought another dress for the reception. It is plainer, but still very pretty, and it doesn't have a train and is just the right length without any adjustments, and it was really cheap from a bridal consignment shop ($50!!). But now I don't know what to do. I love my first gown, but how are you supposed to let loose and dance in a gown like that? Am I overthinking this? I want people to be able to see the first gown, too. I planned on taking pics in it and then changing before the reception, or should I wait to change and do it before the dancing starts? Or should I suck it up and wear the bigger dress? You only get to wear a dress like that one time, right? What are you guys doing?

  • I am sticking to one dress. It is an A-line with a fairly long train, but I think it will be fine to dance in! I don't know what you are worried about! I am sure you will be able to dance and sit and everything in it!
  • Honestly I say do what makes you happy. My suggestion would be to wear the big one for the ceremony and then maybe tough it out for as long as you can at the reception with the big dress, and then once you can't stand it anymore then change.

This is basically what I am doing. My dress will actually be a seperate skirt and top. I will have my long mermaid skirt with a train and a seperate pencil skirt. My wedding and reception will be outside, so if I get too hot/uncomfortable I change into the pencil skirt so I can enjoy myself.

  • It is totally up to you-- if you want to wear both dresses then you're fine-- it is a pretty popular trend right now and it was a pretty good deal.
