Short busty brides

This is what I am.  Short and busty.  Just wondering, what dress silhouette did you go with for your wedding dress??

My sister is short and busty. We were watching SYTTD last night and they said a natural waist ball gown is perfect for this shape. My sister hasn't tried on bridal gowns yet but is leaning towards something like this because it makes her feel taller. She's worn similar silhouettes in BM gowns.

  • I'm short, plus-size and busty.  I got a fit and flair gown and it works wonders for me.
  • I'm not particularlly busty, but I'm definitely curvier.

Honestly, strapless dresses are a disaster on me.  I'm short to begin with, and they cut me across the top of the bust and make me look even shorter.   So I went with a dress with thick straps, a V Neck, and a sash below the bust.  The staps lengthened me, and the v-neck drew the eye to the sash, which sat at my narrowest part.  I also wore tall-ish heels and had the dress hemmed long enough for that, so it added a little bit of height.

Non-strapless dresses are easy to find, though the selection isn't as big as with strapless.  Each of the three bridal salons I went to had at least 8-10 non-strapless/v-neck dresses in my price range, so I had plenty to pick from.

  • Unfortunately, I've been married before and at that wedding I wore a ball gown.  When I looked back at the pictures, I looked even shorter!  I hated the way I looked in that dress.

This time around, I am wearing Maggie Sottero Eve which is a fit and flar style.  It comes with straps, but I probably won't use them.  What made me love this dress is the top.  It goes up high enough on the sides that I am not spilling out or having that ugly side boob thing happening.  With a lot of the other strapless dresses I tried on, I was having to almost stuff my chest back into the dress.

Just make sure you get a dress that fits your chest properly and alter the rest of the dress to fit the other parts of your body.  Also, I recommend either getting a corset back dress or asking if the dress can have an internal corset added if it is zip/button up.  This really helps keep the dress up, so that you don't have to be constantly pulling up on it.

I'm 4'11 with DDs. I got a natural waist ball gown. Mermaids and trumpets looked ridiculous on me because the bottom would have to get cut off. I also wore a 1 shoulder dress.

  • I'm not particularly short (5'4"), but am busty, and I'm wearing an off-the-shoulder neckline with a natural waist gown that's a really poufy A-line. The neckline really balances out both the boobs (and gives a little more coverage so it's not totally cleavage city) and my hips. I also thought that anything too fitted through the hips or drop-waisted made me look a lot shorter, and taking up the bottoms of the fit-and-flares or mermaids would have made me look more dumpy.

I consider myself short, I'm 5'4 ish and busty. When i went to try on dresses, i thought i wanted strapless sweetheart ballgown and OMG it did not work for me. i looked even shorter and bigger up top. the dress was beautiful but i looked soooo short, i tried on a simple halter A-Line and it was definitely the one. it gave me a little more of a silhouette which i loved. (My shoulders are a bit wider than my hips)
  • I'm 5'2" and a DD, always thought I wanted a strapless sweetheart neckline, but they weren't very flattering on me at all.  I was shocked that I picked a dress with straps, but it worked best on me.

    Here's my dress-

  • Halter is the only type of top that really works for me - so thankfully I was able to find a halter dress that I love! The dress also has a wide sash and is A-line.

  • Fit and Flaire, I didn't think it'd work for me because it's so form fitting up top but WOWZA, loooove it!!!  I'd say if you don't know what will work best with your body type try one dress of each style on and go from there!

  • I'm 5'3" and a DD on a size 2 frame and went with a strapless fit and flare dress. I always thought I couldn't do strapless, but the top has a built in band with adjustable straps to make sure everything stays in place. I originally wanted a halter or cap sleeves with a keyhole back, but I found those styles made my chest look even bigger. If you are an hourglass, I think anything with a natural waist can be flattering as long as there is enough support and coverage up top!
  • It really depends on your overall shape... I consider myself short, 5'3" with DD and an hourglass size 4, I chose a strapless fit n'flair mermaid with a sweat heart neckline. I love this silhouette and think it fitted styles work for shorter people, but others didnt seem to like it. When I was trying things on, I thought the ballgowns swallowed me. I didn't think I could do strapless but plan to have cups sewn in so it helps support. Go try on a bunch of different styles and see what works for you!
